Switching From Minoxidil To Finasteride

Does anybody have any experience in dropping minoxidil while beginning fina. My thought was to begin fina and continue minoxidil for 2-3 months and then slowly wean myself off the minoxidil. This of course on the assumption that I'll not have adverse reaction to the finasteride.

I'm a diffuse thinner with NW2.5 temples and a thinning crown/mid scalp region.

on the whole minoxidil is a pain with little benefit to me and if fina works with little sides then it seems like it might be a lot better for me.

thoughts?

One doesnt make up for the other, rather they tend to work synergistically. I would expect to lose some hair even if you do make the switch to finasteride just because the hair you regained (OR JUST KEPT) through minoxidil is now dependant on minoxidil, whether you take finasteride or not.

If you're using it twice a day and not seeing anything worth continuing (as i did 8 months in) id just apply it once a day, 1x a day minoxidil for me is literally an extra 2 minutes after i brush my teeth before bed. Seems like we both have the same type of hairloss, its usually aggressive when the thinning takes over the top scalp so i would seriously recommend using both as minoxidil doesnt do anything for our type of loss.

I appreciate your input. Maybe minoxidil has helped but its subtle. It has also aged me -- I thought that that was all a bit of a myth!

Despite me earlier vows not to try finasteride -- I probably will try it now. Ideally, I wont get sides and after it kicks in I'll be able to drop minoxidil. My hope is that it won't be too long a sentence because as soon as anything else is available I would make the switch or investment - whatever the case may be.

Truth be told I would shave it and move on but I have seriously misshapen skull -- it's pushed over to the side and not even close to symmetrical. Otherwise I'm an oil painting! A regular Picasso!

They work by different mechanisms. If it were me, I'd add finasteride on top of the minoxidil. Chances are you'll lose all the regrowth/maintenance minoxidil has been providing
