Should I swallow my 1/5th of proscar tablet down dry or with water?

Does it make a difference?

It doesn't make any difference whether or not you take it with water. But here's another suggestion for you: chew it up first, before you swallow it.

i let it dissolve in my mouth before moving it under my tongue to allow it to enter the blood directly.... then i swallow it... usually drink a bit of water after that to make sure there is no remaining finasteride in my mouth....

chewing up finasteride doesn't matter. That stuff dissolves so fast.

Yeah, I bet the doctor and/or pharmacist told my mother the same thing: "Don't worry, Mrs. Shelton, those blood-pressure pills you're taking dissolve so fast. Just go ahead and swallow them whole!"

Bryan have you ever taken a propecia or proscar pill? They start breaking down the moment you put them in your mouth. In fact they break down so fast I sometimes worry all the finasteride goodness is coating my throat and not making it all the way down.

so this whole chew all your pills campaign (which can be dangerously misleading to someone taking time-released medication) all stems from an incident that happened with your mother?

it's far less dangerous to advise someone not to chew ANY pills than it is to advise someone to chew "most" pills.

its gonna keep happening until he stops suggesting to people to 'chew their pills'. not everyone has knowledge of time-release, so when bryan suggests to someone it's better to chew a certain pill before they swallow it (for no reason), they're going to think back and say hey, that really smart guy from hairlosstalk says it's good for you to chew pills, and proceed to crush down a 200mg ms contin and drop dead.

It really doesn't matter how you take oraly it as long as it desolves into your blood stream

I'm sorry and I know Bryan will probably throw his glasses down ( if he wears them ) and type real hard something that begins with GOD DAMN IT, lol but not swallowing a pill without water makes ZERO sense ESPECIALLY with something like cutting up Proscar in which you have already broken the pill coating .

I take 12 ounces of water with my finasteride and I'll let my results speak for themself.

Partly from the incident involving my mother, partly from the study done by the California doctor showing that all nutritional supplements are absorbed more completely if they are chewed-up first, prior to swallowing.

Yes, I've also been careful to point out that you should swallow whole any "time-release" formulations.

How many times did this happen Bryan?

Once for sure that I know of. The really interesting question is this: how many times did it happen that I _don't_ know about?

I've suggested more than once that before chewing prescription medication, CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FIRST, to make sure it's not a "time-release" formulation, or that there's not some other good reason not to chew them. Use some common sense.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Please feel free to take your pills with as much water as you want, with my highest regards. _I_ generally take pills with water, too, or some other beverage! :)

True...but I have never heard of this being a problem except for that one time with dear ol Bryan's mom so I am no convinced it is a remote problem. Especially considering how fast they break down in the mouth.

I sometimes let the pill melt / chew in my mouth, only towards the end does it leave a bitter taste in my mouth. BTW, Im on 0.5mg of Cipla finasteride daily.

FWIW, I had *really* bad effects when I used to let the pills dissolve in my mouth instead of swallowing them, massive mood swings, hot flushes etc.

I had assumed it was just part and package of the types of pills I was using, but when I discused the symptoms on some TG forums and with my psych I found out that it was exactly what happens when these medications enter your blood stream too quickly and cause spikes (especially with hormones).

Not sure if this applies to finasteride specifically, but it is one of the pills I used to let dissolve in my mouth.
