sudden hair loss

I'm 18 years old. I've always had really thick hair, to the point where some barbers have had difficulty cutting it. In the past couple of years i have noticed it receeding in the front slowly but nothing that really bothered me. however within the past couple of months i have noticed what seems to be an abnormal amount of hair loss. whenever i take a shower or comb my hair, tons of hair comes out. they aren't thin hairs, but are thick healthy looking hairs and it has me worried that it might be something else that is going on. Any input would be gratly appreciated.

How is your hairline? How are your temples? Are they both very thick or are they thinning?

Does the hairline come straight across your forehead?

Take a mirror and take a look at the top of your head and the vertex in the back where it begins to grow. Are they getting thinner?

my temples are receeding. i can't really tell in the back. it seems to be comeing out in all direction. i can remember being able to comb my hair and ust have a couple of hairs on the comb, but if i'm to do that now i can expect it to fill up with hair.

If your temples are definitely receding, you could start on finasteride but I suggest you see your doctor first or a dermatologist would be even better.
