Stopping All Treatments, What To Expect? Non-responder?

I am two months into topical finasteride, two years into oral minoxidil. 8 months on RU (feb-sept)

I have been a steady diffuse shedder, was lucky and hairloss started late and most likely linked to thyroid issues.

It has only gotten worse with each treatment the sheds accelerate in the first month, forcing out long black hair with no regrowth.

Finasteride is eating away my temples and vertex density to the point that I to have to cut the long hair. What’s there is wispy and brittle. It’s all scalp when wet.

Has anyone just stopped everything and had better results that plugging away as a non-responder? I feel crazy know I need to do something, hearing how important is to start early, while each time doing exponentially more damage than the rate of loss.

I started noticing thinning August 2016, I want to save my hair but clueless. Any experiences advice welcome. Rapid decline since starting RU in February.

Please save the ‘you’re too old, have too much hair’ bs. I’m losing my hair, it’s thinning and like everyone here I’m just trying to make good decisions.

I am using topical finasteride but would never depend on that without oral to complement it. I think both together may have an additive effect in regards to reducing scalp DHT levels. Cannot prove this; just what I think. No telling what to expect if you drop everything. There was one person on this board who recovered a lot of hair after stopping topical minoxidil.

I’m willing to add oral finasteride to the topical or replace the topical. Doctor seemed to think it was essentially the same impact in terms of serum DHT. My serum DHT is 24, below normal range.

what is your oral minoxidil dosage? maybe try adding dutasteride, i do remember like someone said a guy who stopped minoxidil and got better hair, f*** knows how that happened but it's true. I have never seen enough good results about RU to comment on that.

I stopped the RU, not sure if this rapid thinning is related to that. I’m on 2.5 oral minoxidil since May 2017.

Second today

Diffuse everywhere but in february the hairline was still solid.

Meds affecting hair cycle in healthy people have not a good results, IMHO finas/minoxidil are not preventives in common hairloss because are designed to alter the hair cycle. Had you diagnosed for alopecia by a doctor?

If you haven't tried and quit oral already for a specific reason, it might make sense to give it a try. My DHT was 77 before treatment, 29 one month in, and 38 a couple of weeks ago. Last reading was after I'd been using topical finasteride for a while. There don't seem to be many people using both oral and topical, so if they are out there please speak up.

I've noticed increased density in the frontal and temple area of my head after adding topical finasteride/min combo. It's called Morr F. I've been on propecia(brand) for a couple years but its effect seemed to lessen over time. I just started dermarolling and adddig 2 ml Morr F nightly for a little over a month. I'll give it another couple months and see if the growth is real or just my hair growing longer.

If nothing else works you should definitely add oral finasteride imo. Consult a professional first if u can though. If all else fails there’s suppose to be some new treatments coming soon like replicel which gives us a little hope.

So you are now taking Propecia along with Morr F? I knew someone besides myself must be doing this. On paper, it seems like it would be a powerful approach to keeping scalp DHT very low.

^ Yup that's exactly what I'm doing. And that was my reasoning as well. finasteride and min were never enough to stop my hair loss. I've tried other therapies as well such as sprio cream, tricomin, all kinds of shampoos/conditioners, PRP and laser treatment.
spironolactone cream was hard to apply efficacy for guys is sketch.
Tricomin just adds volume.
I honestly had great regrowth, increased density on PRP and laser treatment. But it cost me 3k and it's super inconvenient/expensive to maintain.

I'm hoping the topical finasteride/min combo is a new therapy that helps.

Well good luck brother-Looks like we are on about the same program (I make my own MorrF). Looking forward to that day when I am certain things have taken a positive turn.
