Stop the Itch

A while back I reported that I just got Loprox shampoo by prescription. I must say the stuff works great at reducing minoxidil irritation- I realize their are a bunch of ***'s here who will try and dispute my findings, but realize I am not posting for your benefit, but rather for the intelligent people here like Bruce, Gardner, Stinger, Bomb, X, etc... who care and have an open mind.

Since I have been using Loprox shampoo which is designed for severe seboric dermatitis my scalp has not itched and in fact feels great. It is very gentle leaving the hair manageable. It is supposed to be an upgrade to Nizoral 2% and in my book it very much is. I am very impressed with how gentle a formula it is- I am not sure if it blocks DHT but it definately takes away the itch and irritation of minoxidil. If your taking DHT reducing products you dont need a DHT reducing shampoo anyway. My scalp has not felt this good since I was in my 20's.

I payed $12 for 120ml at an american pharmacy, the product has only been on the market for 6mo and is brand new- give it a try.

It is so much better than Nizoral for Itch relief and as I said may even reduce DHT. PM me for more info

Who in the hell would argue with you about a f*****g shampoo? You sound a bit paranoid, mate. Maybe you should try working on that, eh?

My friend is using Loprox for seb derm and he agrees with you that it's good stuff. Maybe I'll use this in conjunction with or in lieu of Nizoral once I settle on a regimen. I used minoxidil for a couple weeks a few years back, and it made me itch like crazy.

How did you fare with Nizoral 2%? That wasn't cutting it for you?

Thanks for the info.

Cheers.

Seems like good stuff as an alternative or adjunct to Nizoral. See below.

Infection. 2002 Dec;30(6):373-6. Ciclopiroxolamine cream for treating seborrheic dermatitis: a double-blind parallel group comparison. Unholzer A, Varigos G, Nicholls D, Schinzel S, Nietsch KH, Ulbricht H, Korting HC.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of topically applied ciclopiroxolamine cream with that of the corresponding vehicle in patients with seborrheic dermatitis of the face. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was conducted as a multicenter prospective, randomized, double-blind parallel group comparison at 14 centers in Australia and New Zealand. 189 patients with clinically diagnosed seborrheic dermatitis participated in the study. Each patient applied ciclopiroxolamine 1% cream or the corresponding vehicle twice daily as a thin film to the affected skin areas and to clinically unaffected skin areas surrounding the lesions for 29 days. RESULTS: The rate of treatment success was significantly higher with ciclopiroxolamine than with vehicle (73.9 vs 53.6%; p = 0.003). Treatment with ciclopiroxolamine reduced the sum score of the clinical signs of seborrheic dermatitis to a greater extent than the vehicle (p </= 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study confirms that topical treatment with ciclopiroxolamine is effective and well tolerated in patients with seborrheic dermatitis.

Haha. I'm not sure if this is saracasm or not because you just called me a "fool" and you have a pic of Mr T as your avatar, but if you're serious, I don't know where you get off mate. I thanked you for the good info - I might use Loprox when I start on my regimen.

If you object to me calling you a paranoid prick, then don't be paranoid and don't be a prick. It's as simple as that.

But whatever. Be a dickhead if you want. And you didn't even answer the question I asked you about Nizoral 2%! What gall.

Thanks again for the info.

Cheers.

Well, I'm originally from Birmingham, but I live in the States now - New Jersey to be specific. God help me. How in the hell did I wind up here?

And who's fighting? Thanks to Redbone and my one friend with seb derm, I've decided that I'm going to alternate with Loprox and Nizoral. Last time I tried to use minoxidil was a nightmare. Maybe this time with the right shampoos I'll be able to stick with the bloody stuff.

But it's obvious that I'm the dude on the left, if only because of that mean-looking grimace on his face.

Cheers.

I've moved around my whole life. I haven't lived in Merry Old England for quite a few years now. Cripes, I've been all over the world. I've lived in Sydney, Vancouver, Berlin, Dublin, Hong Kong, and now New Jersey. f***, I still can't understand how I wound up living in New Jersey.

Don't worry, I still hate Americans (er...just kidding Americans! ...I love all of ya)

Cheers.
