Still Shedding After 1.5month On Minoxidil Liquid

For those who don't know me here I have male pattern alopecia and even though my hairlines are not receding, I'm losing so much hair on top of my scalp.

I've started minoxidil 1month and a half ago and I'm shedding so much (more than before starting minoxidil). Is it normal? I'm starting to see my scalp in places I couldn't before.

During the first month I would only do 1x a day but since two weeks I'm doing twice a day (1.5ml each time).

When is the shedding supposed to stop? I've also seen my derm last week who advised me to take minoxidil foam instead of liquid. He also prescribed me with a prescription shampoo that has 2% keto. Should I switch to foam like he said?

No stay on liquid, it is generally more effective than the foam. Also, because you changed from one to twice daily use you've likely just prolonged your shed. Ride it out and everything should grow back by month 6.

Thanks. You mean I accelerated the shed? How would have I possibly prolonged it?

My derm recommended foam over liquid no matter brand or generic. I told him I was on liquid and he recommended foam over it. He's a hair loss specialist. Not sure why and there has been studies than shows the results are similar between liquid and foam. One says liquid has higher penetration, another says that foam is better than liquid thus I think it should be pretty similar? Should I stick with 2x a day?

Many dermatologists know very little about hair loss. I'd wager we have many members on here who are more knowledgeable. You prolonged the shed because your hair follicules will need to synchronise again to accommodate for the new dosage of minoxidil you are applying. I would stick to twice a day, as much of a pain in the *** that it is.

Thanks. This makes sense. Will I experience shed if I go back to once a day (which I won't)?

I'm also about 1.5 months into minoxidil, still shedding as well, about 40-60 strands diring shower. Frontal is looking balder than before but hopefully the shedding stops. Norwood 1 - 2.

I would say stick with twice a day as recommended. I used to do it once a day last year but stopped when it didn't produce results. So now I'm trying twice a day with stemoxydine 2 - 3 hours before applying minoxidil at night

I'm on 5% minoxidil, liquid form. Other than this and stemoxydine, I'm also doing a daily 10-15 minutes of frontal scalp massage after applying stemoxydine and once a week derma stamp on the frontal region as well. Stemoxydine regime first started in July and ended in early October, and then I switched to minoxidil before reinforcing stemoxydine again last week after my supplies came in.

Foam doesn't have propylene glycol in it which something like 30% of people have skin reactions to, like me. I don't buy that it's less effective unless someone can source a study, the concentration is the same and it's a hell of a lot easier to use
