Starting treatment

Hey everybody,

New guy here...24 M with..I'd say... thinning hair in the temples (NW2/3-like) and vertex. I guess I've started noticing hair loss 3.5 years ago in the crown area when my cousin pointed it out..I thought it was the stress so I didn't worry about it (thought it'd come back when I graduated). But anyway, about 4 weeks ago I buzzed my hair and saw that I had more hair loss than I thought (temples got a bit bad apparently, though my crown has remained pretty much the same since then (maybe my male pattern baldness isn't as aggressive as some of yours).

Anyway, I've decided to start some kind of treatment. Bought myself some Rogaine 5%, Nizoral 1% and S5 cream. I'm gonna start applying them today and keep you updated. I'll post some pics of my current hair situation too a bit later today or tomorrow.

Got a script for generic finasteride, so if things get worse I'll start using that... But my current plan is to stick to these three for the next 6-8 months then report back. Also have a laser comb...I know what you're all thinking but it wouldn't hurt so I'll give that a shot too.

Good luck buddy, keeps us updated! I buzzed my head a couple of days ago and in the same situation as you. Got my S5 cream coming, starting 5% minoxidil foam and using 2% nizoral once or twice a week along with regenepure dr a couple of times between that, got my finasteride sitting in my drawer, just have to start that now...

Decent regimen mate. Best of luck!

A piece of advice though, whichever doctor you went to get a script for finasteride from, go back and ask for a script for 2% Nizoral as well. If that's not an option, go and order some online. Reason being is that 2% Nizoral used 2-4x per week was shown to regrow as much hair as 2% minoxidil used daily.

Studies and more reasoning are posted in this thread: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/showthread.php/94722-Is-my-Nizoral-regimen-reasonable

I understand I mention this a lot on threads where people are using 1% Nizoral but think of it this way: minoxidil comes in 2% and 5% formulations, how many people do you see here recommending to use the lesser concentration? What makes ketoconazole any different?

Also, ditch the laser comb, I know you don't want to hear this but there are no studies (nor anecdotal reports if I'm not mistaken) proving its effectiveness for Androgenetic Alopecia. It's a waste of time and money and by your logic, while it wouldn't hurt, it won't help either. Keep in mind to the best of my knowledge the FDA evaluated it for safety, not efficacy.
