ok so I didn't think I'd care about losing hair, but I really do now that it's started :( I'd really appreciate any help/tips you all can provide on my situation.

I'm 40 and starting to lose it right at my widows peak what's this type called? I swear I can feel it slightly burning or tight exactly in that area, am I crazy? In another year or two, I'm now expecting to be shaving it all since I'd prefer that to the funny hairline... but geez I can't imagine not having hair!! :(

I already have ED problems so I'm not willing to do any treatment that has any type of sexual side effects, which limits my options, which is my main reason for posting. I'm currently using 1% Nizoral 3-4 times a week and that's all, is there anything else I can do that doesn't have any sexual side effects?

Also, I have somewhat low free testosterone could that have anything to do with this? I know high testosterone can cause hair loss, not sure about low. Oh, and in a few weeks I'll likely be starting testosterone replacement therapy if that matters.

I also deal with depression, is that somehow a factor?

and fwiw, my Dad still has a full head of hair and by all appearances I was going the exact same route until about a year ago. :(

Thanks a ton for any input you can provide!

Well, dude, you're 40, at your age it is masculine to have buzz cut or shaved head.

You pretty much eliminated the best weapon that we have in finasteride. All you pretty much have left are minoxidil and experimentals.

Yeah, don't mess with finasteride if you're already suffering from ED. But without it, you're basically stuck. Minoxidil probably won't even make a dent at your age. RU5881 and other experimental treatments don't have the background info of finasteride because they haven't gone through extensive drug trials just yet, so those probably aren't worth your time. A hair transplant is expensive, and without having been on finasteride for at least 8 months prior to the surgery, there's a very high risk of shock loss that may only worsen your hair even more than it already is. Your options are pretty limited. The idea of not having hair can feel like losing a limb to some men, but without a cure coming anytime in the foreseeable future it's something that many of us are just going to have to learn to live with. Unfortunately, and it kills me to say it, that might just be the case for you. Don't screw with micro scalp pigmentation either if that's something you've read to be an option. The results can be catastrophic.

For the record, depression, stress, diet, and things that occur in your everyday life have zero affect on male pattern baldness. male pattern baldness attacks monks for God's sake, and those dudes are the most peaceful, least stressed dudes on the planet. The only thing that can speed up male pattern baldness would be anabolic steroids because they mess with the testosterone levels in your body.
