starting propecia with long hair

i'm really worried about the shedding, at the moment my hair is thick enough that I can maintain a shoulder length cut, it's down to my eyes at the front. in the mornings it's greesey, every monrning - and looks pretty scruffy / not very thick at the front, but once washed it's ok, no noticable thinning, well a bit at the front where my hair parts and on top. the weird thing is that I have a few areas of thick, short hair by my middle parting, I don't know if I'm loosing hair here here or it's damaged from blow drying as it's short but fairly thick, and dark, doesn't make sense when the rest of my hair is thick. my hair is weird though because at the sides and back it's super thick, black and curly and grows short (has been for years) then from the middle up to the top of my head i've got regular long and brown hair.

when I pull my hair back I can see a lot of fuzz, I think I'm slowly receding, and my parting line has become more sparce - my question is that as my hair is long, and I shed!! will the front look terrible? I understand that the folicles get bigger, so the hair falls out, which is a very good thing (if treatment goes well) but the regrowth might take me quite a while after shedding to get my hair back to a stage where it looks good with my cut - i'm really worried that I'm going to look like a long haired fool with a really bad center parting if I shed too much.

how much to people generally shed, is there anybody that might have longish hair that wasn't too bad at the start, who shed badly? would like to see some pics or get advice on this for longer hair types.

I hear mixed results with propecia, I really hope it works!! i'm not sure if I should start on 0.5mg or 1meg per day? less shedding with 0.5??

Stay with your style, if it gets worse becouse of treatment shedding, cut it down. Don´t be afraid of cutting it short. And judge yourself taking pictures every month or so. The mirror is tricky.

I had long, curly shoulder length (if held straight) hair - but I decided to cut it before I started finasteride (propecia). Now I wish I hadn't as I have maintained pretty well - maybe even improved since I shaved it off - 1 year ago.

I am growing my hair longer again as I realise I have enough hair to keep it longer. I have had a couple of fits when I snipped it shorter. But I recently saw photos before I cut and my hair seems as good now - so why not have the haircut I like.

As Solo wisely said - you can always cut it short if you have a shed - but try and ride it out and hope for some good finasteride

at this point, i'm not really thin, it'd be such a kick if I loose it all and have to go with a short cut for a couple of years!! we'll see what happens I guess, if I start to thin I will blow dry every day and layer my hair more or something, god knows how this will affect my parting line.

Well put it this way... if your parting line gets worse after NOT having taken Proscar, you'll be kicking yourself thinking "sh*t i wish i started finasteride". So i don't think you should put too much emphasis on it being a bad thing. If you truly believe one day you'll be bald, then anything you do now will unquestionably help.

Good luck with it... stay positive in your mind and be sure to let us know how it goes.

I don't know if it's my paranoia or what, but I think I will take the leap, and buy some cover up spray in case I loose too much through shedding

:D

yes, I am truly happy. honestly

how long before new hair comes in, after you have shed (generally?)

I never really had a shed - just a slow improvement - first loosing less hair in the shower and eventaually some thickening up, although I had a buzz cut when i started finasteride so it was difficult to judge.

Try starting with finasteride and if you notice any shed you can get some thickening shampoo/condtioner - there are loads out there - don't limit yourself just to 'mens' products.

finasteride takes some time to kick in - so continued thinning may just be the action of male pattern baldness and not necessarily a shed.

Just play it by ear.

I geuss yeah. I wonder how much of shedding is paranoia, i'm sure it isn't in lots of cases.

Take a look at "badhairdecade"´s pics (he was one of the moderators, I think).

He kept his hair long while on treatments, and in just three months he got quite good results, without getting worse or something.

I think it´s the best encouragement you can find in here.

And check about dermmatch or toppik, I´ve heard they are the best concealers out there (I haven´t tried them on me, so I can´t speak accurately).

And there was another product for thickening called "kerasome", wich came with a lot of hype and a pretty good looking marketing campaing a month or so ago, but I never heard of it again.

Check their url: http://www.kerasome.com

Btw, anyone got a response for the kerasome´s European selling trouble?

The prize was mad if you want to buy it in Europe, becouse of the mail costs, and they said they will work on finding distributors in here, but I haven´t heard anything. Did anyone of you???

If I ever try any concealer it would be something like this, becouse it looks pretty solid and natural-looking (they say it´s natural hair) in their promotion.
