hi guys,
long time lurker, first time poster. I am 25, noticing an increasing temple and vertex hair loss, nothing major but def'n less hair than even a few years ago. No one in my fam is bald, guess i got the shaft of the genetic lottery lol.

Anyway, to keep the hair I have I want to start on finasteride but I am worried.

1. The shedding that comes with it. My dermatologist is telling me that me has never heard of a finasteride shed. He has mentioned a tellogen effilum that comes with rogaine but nothing with finasteride. From this forum it seems that people do had pretty big sheds with finasteride. I really dont want to loose more hair. Can more people comment on this. Are there any articles/studies that are out there?

2. Sides: the big one is decreased libido and watery seamen. Its a guys forum so im gonna be blunt...I love fuckin' and blowing large ones on my gf. I really dont want to risk anything that will decrease my sexual function. I heard that sides are <2% but it seems that everyone here does have some sort of side...

Anyway, i wanna take the plunge...but i want to hear what you guys have to asy...I know it is best to trust the studies, but any help/advice/suggestions would be great!

All the best,

Aus

to answer your questions:

1) sheds don't normally occur with exclusive use of finasteride
i myself feel i may have some what of a shed in the 2-3 month period

be aware that "sheds" aren't necessary a bad thing
it's usually is indicative of "waking up" the hair follicles that were already in the resting phase and pushes out the (old) hair shaft for a new one

do some research about the hair growing cycles
and DHT degradation over time
you will come to terms that the hair that falls out today
was programed to stop growing approx. 90 day ago

2) the chances of sides are very low
mostly psychosomatic (if you think your libido is lowering/low) it will be
i personally felt a little "off" in the first month
but im fine now and possibly finasteride raised my libido
when you start "hormone altering" drugs you can almost expect to have a
little adjusting period

the big three in combination has the best track record and usually the best results
finasteride is a good start for maintenance
MIN is proven to thicken the crown and anterior mid scalp area
nizoral "the wild card" can't hurt and is very easy to add to a regiment

good luck and godspeed

1) Yes, some people do shed.. I'm currently on month 3 of finasteride and I'm still shedding. People tell me that it goes away after month 4 or 5.. so I'm still riding it out.

2) Why would someone with no sides post? That's why it looks like "everyone" is experiencing sides. I did experience low libido and watery semen, but they all went away at around month 2 mark. You never know what's going to happen unless you try it.. and if you do experience extended side effects, then you can just quit finasteride and get back to normal rather quickly. Don't be a fool like others (people who don't even start finasteride because they are afraid of potential sides, or others who quit after 1-2 weeks), and try it out.

I wouldn't call people a fool for not wanting to take propecia..
Check out propeciahelp.com for the hundred of people with PERMANENT impotence. It got to the point where propecia must legally list permanent erectile disfunction on future labels so I think the guy is warranted his worries, and it is the same reason I won't touch the stuff. Yes it may work for some....and the vast majority at that. But a small percent with have their lives destroyed by the sides, even if its only 1% or so the positive effects outway the possible negative in my opinion...

As for libido drop, its a highly common effect. Do a search on procepia on a forum where people are more open and less easily embarrassed, and around 50% will admit to a drop in libido. Try bodybuilding.com for example.

Just weight it up yourself, it obviously does have some great effects and for those it works for im gald. But i wouldn't want to be one of those people who can't f*** their gf for the rest of their life....

hey guys,
so i started finasteride about two weeks ago. I am noticing increased shedding, and almost worsening hairloss. Is this common to happen with finasteride? Can anyone share their experiences?

Thanks!

Yes, many people do shed on finasteride, mine lasted for about 3 months.. get ready to ride it out, don't give up.
