Take finasteride 1MG. Worst case scenario consider Dutasteride at your own risk. That drug blocks 90% of the main hormone that causes hairloss.

Yes there are other factors that cause hairloss but DHT is the main one. Trying to argue against that is like arguing the world is flat. Do you really think it’s possible to go fully bald when the main hormone that causes hairloss is reduced to that extent?

You won’t go bald while you’re taking that drug. The forums make things unbelievably complicated. Individuals are welcome to jump in and attack this post. Actually ,I’m sure they will. Good luck on your hairloss journey.

I'm not attacking you at all, I agree with what you said about DHT, but I wonder if the 60-70% reduction in DHT that finasteride delivers is enough for a significant portion of men.

What I posted earlier, about the huge number of dropouts in all the studies I've seen, has yet to be answered on this forum or any other.

I want to be wrong.

I would argue that hypothetically, even in the worst case scenario that the 60-70% isn’t enough, you can still rest easy because dutasteride (use at your own risk) will always be there for you to take to block 90%.

Why panic when there’s a plan B already in place. Bear in mind this is the internet. Anyone goes on here, and anything is possible, yet no one in the history of the internet has been able to post pictures starting as a Norwood 2 going on to a Norwood 6 while on finasteride? forget pictures, even a story of ending up a Norwood 6 while on finasteride?

I have seen one or two cases of guys who still went norwood 7 on finasteride. But they had very agressive hairloss, like nw7 at 22. I don't think they started fiansteride at norwood 2 tho if i remember correctly. I do agree with u however that it will take al ong time to go bald on finasteride for the average user.

I would strongly doubt they started treatment at Norwood 2 as you stated. Thanks for the input however. I’m actually not an optimist as I think some people here think that.

I just strongly disagree with the “its game over unless you do something drastic” mentality on some of this forum. I’m also aware that a lot of people are in the beginning stages of hairloss here, so are panicked and unable to step back and think logically about it all.

I'm a 3 vertex. I don't look bald to most people but I can't lose any more ground. I know I waited too late, but I held a nw2 from my early 20s to around 40 and I honestly thought "I'm okay! I'll be here forever."

As soon as I start to feel better something happens. For example I've lost very few hairs this week, less than a dozen per day, but this morning I ran my fingers through my hair front to back 3 times, then side to side 3 times and got 32 hairs.

I did that on the sides and back and got 3.

Bad sign?

You’re doing what everyone does when they notice hairloss and that’s panic. It also doesn’t matter how much you shed, what matters more is what you visibly see on your scalp (which in the first year you shouldn’t pay much attention too as there will be changes)

Have you ever seen how much hair women lose On a daily basis? That doesn’t mean they are balding.

that being said, I remember when I was 18 I was counting all the hairs I was losing. In hindsight, just need to take a step back and let the drug work. the negatively on the forums doesn’t really allow that however.

This is my second panic. The first came in 1996-97 when my hair line went from a tombstone shape to nw2 in about a year or two.

Then stay on treatment and look how well it works for you. No need to panic yet. And then u can do a transplant.

Exactly. This is good advice hairicane.

Nah, no transplant, not at my age. If I can just hold on to what hair is left til 50 I'll be happy.

Hopefully the loss of the last few years will be a repeat of my younger days and it'll stop for a long time.
