spironolactone vs Flutamide

I'm very interested in the prospect of topical antiandrogens and plan on trying one out after this semester of college. I'm torn on whether to go with spironolactone or flutamide. I know spironolactone is the safer of the two but many people do not get good results with it. Flut usually yields better results but there is a danger of side effects.

I am really trying to hit my hairloss hard this summer so i am trying to decide which to go with. Has anyone had good results with either? Can flut be used eod and still have good results and less side effects or is it better to use it ed? How bad can sides be from flut and how prevalent are they?

I really appreciate any responses and personal experience with either and info about where the best place to get each would be.

Taking both may be a good idea. From what I have read flutamide has some bad sides, especially rough on the liver. Making a 2% solution and using twice a week should avoid those pitfalls. Seek out posts by el dutasteride, as he uses flutamide as part of his regimen.

thanks for the response. Yea i've done a lot of research on both and appreciate el duterino's insight. I obviously think i would have more success with flut but id be very nervous about using it because i have never experienced sides on any treatment as of yet and my dad had liver problems so im not sure about it. Perhaps ill take your advice and use flut only two or three times a week and spironolactone the rest. Is that a viable option or should i just use one and stick to it?

i use fluta 2x day , but half dose

sides and liver damage, is this not what it can do when you take it orally ?
topical the skin can only transfer a small % into the blood ??
and at half dose like me...

i check every 3 month my liverfunctions (bloodtest with my doctor)
because i also use dutasteride 1 cap a day...
so i keep my eye on my liver... just to be safe

also avoid, alcohol and other stuff that could damage the liver...

I've just ordered spironolactone 5% from minoxidil.com
so i will give you a verdict in 4/5 months time how spironolactone compares against flut!

i'm still not sure what i am going to do. I might end up using flut like mwf and spironolactone the rest of the time or something but i would be afraid i wouldn't know what was helping me. Is flut safe to use all over the scalp or just in small areas at one time?

Have you used flut before and if so what did you think? i would really appreciate if you sent me a pm or something and let me know what you think of spironolactone once youve used it for a few months. Thanks!!

On a side note- Wesley i see your using the 12.5 minoxidil lotion. How do you like it. I was thinking of adding a higher minoxidil at some point and considered the lotion but wasn't sure if the vechicle would absorb as well as a liquid. I rarely see anybody use it and have had a hard time finding opinions. What do you think about it?

if feels good, i put it on my head a hour before sleep and when i get out of bed, its curly and little hard , but not greasy , so it good stuff

i picked this version , because it has aloe vera , and no ppg
just to be safe , i dont want any reaction of my skin...

its a good product, it can be that the 15% liquid version is better, but if it makes my head look greasy , i dont want it...

i think it get in the skin well, sinds it has absorbtion enhancers...
my hair starts to grow faster so it gets transported under the skin as well...
i didnt had this with the 5% liquid...

Thanks for the response wesley. I'm currently just using the foam with pretty good results so i probably wont be making a switch to anything stronger for awhile. I was looking into the lotion but your basically the only person ive seen using it but when i do switch i will definitely consider the lotion since you are having success with it and i also am a little afraid of skin irritation and hate when my hair feels greasy.

Anyway does anybody have an answer about flut? Should it only be applied to one section of the hair at a time to decrease absorption or is it safe for the whole head at once? i have diffuse thinning so i want to know if i do end up using flut if i should maybe use it on one section at a time or the whole head.

Use spironolactone on one side of your head, and Flut on the other side. Then report back to us.

I'm going to do soy proteins on one side, and none on the other, to see if they do anything. I'll also add plain vehicle to the other side. You got to narrow stuff down one at a time so you know what is bunk and what is working. You will be able to stick to your regimen if you know it works, but if you just hope it works.
