spironolactone Topical and Propecia? Is it safe?

I was reading somewhere on the board that a combination of Sprio and finasteride was dangerous and that it could lead to gyno, is this true? I'm starting to have thinning, but the biggest problem would be the receding hariline and a lot of people say that the spironolactone is a good topical to use for halting it. Is this a bad idea to do while I'm taking Propecia? The last thing I want is man-tits.

Propecia is more likely to give you gyno as the systemic absorbtion of spironolactone is slim to none. It's metabolized in the scalp.

So would you think that it would be ok to use Topical spironolactone while I'm taking Propecia?

I started Propecia about 6 1/2 weeks ago and have also been using spironolactone at least once a day for a couple months. I've not noticed anything unusual from the combination. I'm not an expert, but I'd say it's probably fine.

Primex,
you're confusing topical spironolactone with oral spironolactone...

A combination of Propecia and oral spironolactone (in doses at least about 100mg) is asking for gyno... One of our favorite posters, Socks, uses this regimen. However, he claims to have no symptoms of gyno.

As for using Propecia, the risk of developing gynocomastia is something like less than 1%... I think it might be .02%, but without looking it up, you can bet it's pretty low.

Using topical spironolactone is safe to use on the head... it is metabolized locally and has no systemic absorbtion... Supposedly, there might be traces of spironolactone in the body after application of the topical-- but it's so incredibly low that it's disregarded.

Sorry for writing so much.

In summary, the use of 1mg Propecia and the application of topical spironolactone to your scalp contains a VERY MINIMAL chance of developing gynocomastia.

I am not disagreeing, because I want to believe too, but are you absoutely sure Aplunk?. It's logical to think that the topicals only effect the scalp, but do we know for sure that the daily application does not (significantly) enter the blood stream where it can be absorbed systemically. I wish a toxicoligist or something can qwell me suspicion.

Go to the hairlosshelp.com/forums page.

Some members have taken blood tests after administering topical spironolactone applications.

Their hormones were completely fine.

Aplunk,
That does help to know that users had the blood work done and seemed fine. I am curious do you aply the spironolactone all over the top and crown, but not on the hairline?

Aplunk,
where do you but your spironolactone from? And do we know if competes with finasteride, or is it a good compliment to it?
