I have no idea what spironolactone is, if I could help you belive me I would. The only advice I can give you is try reading some directions on it do a search for it on google.com or yahoo.com and look for people that have used it and how they've used it, try to find before and after pictures. One thing I always do everytime I join some forum is try to find 2-3 similar forums on the net on the same subject, post the same question up on every forum, its fun to see the different responses, and if you don't get a response from one forum you still have a good chance to get a response on a different forum.

well the whole premise of it is to inhibit DHT in the scalp, so feel free to slap it on all over the top of your head.

you might want to ask The Gardener seeing as how he uses it and says it works great with him...he has a solid regimen so chances are he would know alot about spironolactone and its effects.Although i have heard just once a day.

I use Dr. Lee's 5% spironolactone twice a day all over my scalp. It's expensive though, costs me about $37/month using it like that. The directions say you can apply it once or twice daily.

The jury is still out. I've been using it for going on 5 months I believe. My existing hair has thickened up for sure since starting but then again I started the lasercomb and folligen at about the same time. Thats the problem with my regimen, I started everything around the same time so it will be hard to tell what is working and what isn't. But my hair has definitely improved and I have some new small hairs along my temples.

Thanks man, I'm hoping by the 12 month mark to see some real success. My hair line still looks like *** but there has been slight improvement on the crown. To hell with the hair line, if I can keep making progress on the crown and eventually fill it in, it would be a huge victory.

Sorry, Vicci, I was out of town and just saw your post now.

I'm a spironolactone user. If you decide to add it into your regimen, you have two paths, either 2% or 5%.

2% spironolactone comes in a liquid medium, similar consistency to minoxidil but not nearly as greasy. More alcohol-like and does not drip. This is what I use. The up side of it is that it is easy to apply. It is a nice thin liquid that dries up very quickly. The only down side is that the 2% spironolactone, when combined with minoxidil and heat can have a subtle odor. I give my hair a good application of it at night right before applying minoxidil, so the cool temps at night really have not created any kind of an odor issue at all. I have to say that I truly believe that the latest batches of spironolactone I have received from Dr Lee have been relatively odorless, that is, after the initial smell of the alcohol has evaporated away. The sh*t is much better now. I also apply smaller amounts of it in the morning, just on my thin temple areas and hairline, and I try to get on a third light dosage on weekends if possible.

5% spironolactone comes in a cream carrier. The up side is that it is odorless. The down side is that it is in a cream carrier, which is greasier than the 2%. Apparently, both have somewhat equal levels of absorbtion despite the difference in concentration, but the 5% lacks any odor. If you go the 5% route, you could either just use it on your thin/bald areas, or you could try actually putting it into your hair and hopefully it will assist your styling aid. I've never used 5%, so I can't tell you the specifics.

If you are interested in spironolactone, I would try out the 2%. Start your first application at night to see how it works for you. You daube it on, let it set for a few minutes, and then drop the minoxidil on top. It works for me. HairLossTalk.com uses the 5%, perhaps if he peruses this posting he can chime in on what his experience has been in using it.

5% Rogaine is my preference. But, I keep 5% Dr Lee's on hand for use on those occasions, usually in the mornings, when I need to get out the door quickly because it dries SO much faster.

Gardener,or anyone that has used this product
which is better the 2% or the 5% i know the 5% is lotion but if it is stronger then 2% why does everyone get the 2%.i know its easier to apply it being a liquid, can the 2% even keep up with the 5%?

The 5% lotion is an absolute b**ch to apply. I keep my hair buzzed below 1/4 inch and it is still hard to get rubbed in. If you dont take your time, then it will leave a white residue on your head. If I wore my hair any longer I would use 2%.

I wonder why Dr. Lee doesn't make a 5% liquid?

Does anybody know why there isn't a 5% spironolactone liquid? Maybe I should email dr. lee on this one.

O.K. I emailed Dr. Lee and got a response in less than 10 min. I pasted my questions and their answer below.

I was wondering why there isn't a 5% spironolactone liquid? Also, why not a topical solution with maybe finasteride and spironolactone combined?

Regrowth's response:
If you have ever tried the 2% spironolactone solution, you will probably know why there isn't a 5% solution. The 2% solution smells bad enough. Making it into a 5% solution would cause one to lose friends. The only resolution of the matter was to make the topical preparation stable. Doing so mandated it be something other than a solution.
As to a topical finasteride.... combined with finasteride or anything else: There is no proof that finasteride inhibits DHT when applied topically. Even it it did, it would be overkill to combine it with spironolactone. Namely, spironolactone inhibits so close to 100% of DHT where applied, adding another (costly) ingredient would not make sense. Besides which, Merck holds all patents on any form of finasteride, and would likely not sanction it being made into a topical preparation.

Best regards,
