I have been using spironolactone now (mainly the 2% liquid for Dr. Lee) for about 6 months ( have been using twice a day for about a month now, prior to this once a day) along with nightly applications of 2% Minoxidil. I am not sure if spironolactone is a substitute for Propecia or if it is very effective at all.
I feel I am slowly receding especially at temples and thinning at crown. It seems to me that the Minoxidil is slowing the process to a crawl but the spironolactone is not doing much of anything. I do not see a real halt to hair loss or anything of the sort.
I will stick with the spironolactone for another 6 month nevertheless, but like others I am losing faith in it.
If you cannot use Propecia, then I don't think there is a substitute at this point in time.
