spironolactone 5% into 2%

I want to dissolve spironolactone 5% solution in alcohol to make it closer to a 2% solution.

I would like to ask is ethanol has to be pure? Because it is really expensive and you can get ethanol with 3% izopropyl alcohol and 20mg per liter of denatonium benzoate.

Now these are used in cosmetics industry so I assume they are ok in such small quantity.

Any opinions?

I'm sorry but I don't have the answer to your question but as a spironolactone user I'm interested to know why you want to dilute it to 2%.

5% is 50 mg per 1 ml. Using it twice a day at over 1 ml to cover the whole balding are means taking over 100 mg of spironolactone daily applied locally... The standard dose of spironolactone orally is 200 mg daily.

I think I am taking too much of it locally and it is pretty harsh on the skin. I have a feeling I have sympthoms of local overdose. 2% should be enough thats 40 mg daily for scalp alone.

Ok. Thanks for the explanation. I put it on my crown area once a day but I probably use too much. Not sure if I have any sides or not. Is spironolactone working for you? I never see anyone post any positive results directly attributable to spironolactone on these boards.

I would say it is working but then again you never know. I had to stop the treatment because of this skin rash.

The 2% used in the alcohol based lotion is 2% because the alcohol is considered to be a better carrier than the ingredients of the cream.

You can't really compare what is applied topically with a cream to what is ingested locally, it means nothing, without knowing about systematic rates of absorption via the carrier.

If your finding it harsh locally then maybe it's down to one of the ingredients in the cream, rather than the spironolactone itself.

Do you use any other topicals?

What is a local overdose? i'm not even sure what that means.

If you really wanted to dilute it you might be best adding a cream.

I am not using 5% cream. But 5% liquid. Well maybe it down to the ingrediens that's what I am going to find out. But it developed over time and since one of the sides of overdose is a rash I guess it may very well be it.
