Spiromatic: Some Q's

Hey fockers. I am thinking about using some of Dr. Lee's spironolactone. I have some questions for some of you users out there:

1) Which strength should I use? I understand one is a liquid(2%) and one is an ordorless cream(5%). Does the cream go on easy? I would be applying along with my xandrox at night before sleep.

2) Does the 2 Oz. Cream last a month (it's kind of expensive)?

3) Does the liquid smell bad? Would it smell bad with use of Xandrox?

4) Most importantly, has spironolactone had any effect on your facial hair? I can grow a mean beard and I like it that way. I would be upset if my facial hair decreased in thickness because of some girly cream.

Thanks in advance to any responders.

spironolactone is good, that is my opinion and I love my spironolactone.

As for the proper solution to use, despite the difference in concentration, both actually have similar effectiveness. The 2% is designed to be used in areas where you have somewhat thick existing hair that is in danger of thinning, such as someone developing a bald spot and has thinning back there, but still has a significant haircount. The cream is for use on the hairline and temples. It goes on clean and odorless, and you can wear it throughout the day. I use the 5% now, but used to use the 2% and had no problems with odor UNLESS it was a hot day, or I had any sort of strenuous exercise to do. spironolactone 2 plus minoxidil plus heat emitted a strange odor. I wore it at night, at bedtime, and avoided this after experiencing this phenonemon first hand. spironolactone 2 does tend to smell like pharmacy, like alcohol a bit. spironolactone 5 smells like moisturizer or cold cream, I wear a thin layer of the sh*t to work on my temples. It's good stuff. The only problem with it is if you want to apply it to areas where you already have good haircount, the cream will get into your hair and will become cosmetically noticeable. For areas like that, use the 2%, at night... or a very light application of it during the day.

To HairLossTalk.com,
Do you still get slight headaches within the 30 minutes after applying spironolactone or did those eventually resolve over time? I saw a couple of your posts stating that fact on alt.baldspot a couple of years ago. I get somewhat light-headed after I apply the spironolactone (2% or 5%) so I was wondering if that was normal or not...

Thanks for the response fellas. Gardner: have you experienced any negative effects on your facial hair? Any side effects whatsoever from spironolactone?

I plan on applying only once daily before bed. You think I should go w/ 5% or 2%?

I have had no side effects on the facial hair.

Whether to use the 2% or 5% depends on where you intend to apply it. Both have very different 'handling' characteristics, so to speak. I would buy a little of both and try them out. The 2% is best for areas where you already have hair, but are thinning. The 5% is killer on the hairline and those stubborn upper temples. Methinks my re-introduction of the 5% on my upper temples might be the reason why they have really started to improve over the last few months. Then again, I've been tinkering with some designer minoxidil too, but that spironolactone just feels good after you use it for a bit.

Get both, try each out, and get a feel for their characteristics. Both have pros and cons.
