It depends on your hair density. Alot of people have no male pattern baldness at all, and simply have a smaller amount of overall hair distributed throughout the scalp. Many asian men for example, can wear their spiked several inches, and scalp is still visible from every angle.
Scalp visibility is not a good indication of male pattern baldness. What is a good indication are dramatic differences in density throughout the head. For example, if you see scalp on the top of your head and 1 inch, and non of the side at 1 inch, then you may have problem.
Head shape plays a role as well, and the direction your hair grows. Those with soft hair, have hair shafts that lie down more and thus cover more scalp. Those with coarse or curly hair, have hair shafts that stick up, like spikes, and reveal more scalp.
Conclusion: Just because you can see scalp, does not mean you have male pattern baldness.
