Something to prevent receding hairline on top of finasteride...

So I've read people say finasteride doesn't work on the hairline, it still recedes etc. I guess I won't know until I try.

I want to do what I can do stop my hairline going back. It's slowly going back on the sides (well thinned, not really gone back) over the last 5 years and I want to either keep it there or grow the sides a bit thicker.

I don't want to use minoxidil since I have long hair and don't like the idea it could shed it and not grow back.

So I've read about the Vag cream and Retin-A (thinking of getting this for wrinkles anyway). Is there anything else apart from rinsing my hairline after exercise etc?

How much proof is there that this is true, can you really lose by using minoxidil and not get it back?
