So does Finastride actually permanently inhibit 5-alpha reductase?

Well, I've been researching this, and thus far, finastride is believed to permanently inhibit the 5- reductase enzyme; but what I was wondering if anybody really knew was..

what does the medical literature, research and findings mean exactly by "permanent"???

As in, whilst you are on the drug itself? or it destroys part of it from functioning as it did pre-finastride? I've also just read an article saying that most enzymes will generally (if whatever foreign substance is removed) return itself back to it's prior state.

finasteride inhibits 5ar till your body makes more..Hence the "keep taking it or you'll lose whatever you gained/maintained"

Well, I suppose that makes sense, yeah.

What's with the all the talk about the possibility of it causing "permanent" side effects, then? is that really possible? or only in cases where they took it for like, a few years even after having sides all the way at the beginning of first starting it?

Do you have any sources as to how or why you know for sure it doesn't stop it permanently, though? It makes the most sense, I just wonder exactly what effects it could have on your body long term or not.

Who said that finasteride permanently inhibits 5ar?

I don't know "who" specifically, but it's on the wikipedia page, and pretty well known about, in terms of how the drug actually works and effects the body and interacts with our bio-chemistry, etc.

I just found it up after some research, so I can make sure I understand the in and out's of it, to better make up my mind.

I don't see it on the wikipedia page.

If that's what finasteride did, people would only take 1 pill in their life.

You shouldn't fear monger by spreading false information.

The 5 alpha reductase is what the pill inhibits which is the mechanism and enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. I just looked up what finastride does to it, and that's what is commonly described.

Finasteride irreversibly binds to 5AR2. It never ever lets go. The only way to regain DHT levels is by stopping finasteride and letting your body make more, which takes about 10 days on average.

This type of inhibitor is known as a suicide inhibitor.

I've been on finasteride for 6'months, had sides the first 3 months due to nocebo, stopped monitoring my erections and have been fine ever since.

Gained some density and haven't lost anymore. Even got hairline growth you,can see in my thread, although I did use rogaine with finasteride.

Finally.....someone who knows what they are talking about.

It will permanently attach itself to those particular 5ar molecules, over time your body will make more. That's why DHT recovers if you stop using finasteride.
