I suppose I should start by saying that I'm not new to this forum, although it has been a very long time. As of today, I'm 39 and 364 days old, and I'm recovering from my hair transplant.
Since the age of 20, I've been experimenting with every tool you can possibly imagine to try and combat hairloss. First it was the fibres, which worked for a good long time! Then it was the meds, which also worked for a while (until I simply stopped using them - stupid, young me!).
At the age of 33, I finally went down the hair system route...
There are many things I don't regret about it, to be honest. I spent 7 years largely looking good. But I also spent 7 years hiding. And checking my reflection. And painting my scalp with glue in the mornings. And paying £200 for a haircut.
At some point, that had to change. The only problem is that I had gone from having a decent amount of hair, to a hair system. If I was going to take the splash and get a transplant, it would have meant a period of several months of being, to the onlooker, suddenly and inexplicably bald.
So, I came up with a plan.
Last year, I visited Sebastian Pawlek at Your Scalpmicropigmentation (SMP). This is a small company that we're talking about. So small, in fact, that I only actually came across his website by accident, having already paid a deposit to a larger company.
Now, just to be clear, I'm not here to promote, nor am I being encouraged to tell my story by anyone but myself. But one look on Seb's website will show you just how good he is. He did a fantastic job of building my hairline to frame my face perfectly and ensuring the density and blend were spot on.
After the first two sessions, I disappeared to the coast to hide from my friends whilst it healed, then went back to the system. This was not a complete transition yet.
Part two is currently underway. At the end of July, I went for a transplant at Dr Cinik's clinic in Istanbul. I must say, I've seen the criticism of clinics like his, with people calling them hair mills. But for my experience, they were excellent. Very thorough, deeply concerned about my wellbeing throughout, and the technicians that did the actual transplant (Cinik designs it) were highly skilled. All in all, I got 4650 grafts, with around 500 of those coming from my beard.
The aim was simple. I knew I couldn't expect full coverage with the hairloss I had already experienced. And I knew that I couldn't feel comfortable walking around with just a tattoo masking my bald head. So Dr Cinik designed a hairline for me that was relatively dense, getting sparser the further back it went as it blended with the SMP. All this was essentially so that, at the very worse, I could end up being able to pull off a decent buzz cut.
I'm currently at 5 weeks post-op. The donor is still red, as is the front of the recipient. But I think it's looking good for now. I have another session booked with Sebastian for when the donor heals to patch up and blend the back and sides again. But the headline, really, is that I think it's definitely going to work.
I will post some photos below of myself at various stages for you all to see. Any questions, hit me up!
Also, if anyone would like to see my photos with the face unobscured to give me a full impression of how I look, PM me.
