Im just wondering. Even if it does, could it be so severe that it thins your hair all over your scalp?
I've cut down smoking ALOT. Down from 2 packs a day, to 10 cigarettes a day more or less.
Im just wondering if it could drasticly affect my hair?
Thanks in advance everybody :)

If you are genetically predispostioned to male pattern baldness, then smoking, bad diet can all contribute too hairloss. By that accelerating the process.

But in the end its the genetic predisposition that counts you could just as easyily live like a monk and still be bald at a young age.

exactly.

but smoking is so bad for you it can only help to quit. at least in terms of long term success.

Think about it like this: if you quit smoking, you can spend all that money you would spend on cigs on finasteride

It "accelerates" the process. That means you are still destined to go bald with or without ciggies and alcohol abuse, but just at a quicker rate with a life style of ciggies/stress/poor diet and alcohol.

Where did you get that from? I haven't seen one study that correlates smoking with male pattern baldness. I've seen a study that links smoking with raised androgen levels, but that is incredibly presumptuous to assume that it accelerates the process.

Smoke does make hair brittle though. It's probably a good idea to quit for health reasons anyway.

Poor blood circulation, due to oxygen levels being impaired:

The study was led by Dr Lin-hui Su from the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. He wrote in the journal Archives of Dermatology: “After controlling for age and family history, statistically significant positive associations were noted between moderate or severe androgenetic alopecia [baldness] and smoking status, current smoking of 20 cigarettes or more per day and smoking intensity.â€￾ Smoking is believed to affect hair loss by damaging the micro-circulation supply to the follicles.

TBH why wouldn't Hair be affected by smoking/ and poor lifestyle choices?...if everything else from your skin/to your lungs are affected by it, then why not your hair?

Anyway, one thing that puzzles me about hair loss is why do some people go bald quicker then others.

I know, obviously its almost certainly not going to be benificial, but to claim that stopping smoking is somehow going to give you a marked improvement is just pure speculation.

Because thats the nature of genetics we dont know how it effects us, I know people who live terrible lifestyles and yet look great whilst others live healthily and look terrible.
Why do some people respond brilliantly to meds whilst others have get no difference. Everyone is basicly a slave to their own DNA. Not every smoker has bad skin and not every health freak has good skin, at the end of the day genetics are always going to be the hugely overwhelming factor.
