I suggest you don't 'look' for any side effects as you may start to psychologically convince yourself that you have them.

Gyno is incredibly rare.

I really encourage to take it and forget about it.

The amount of people on this site that blame every single ailment or symptom on finasteride is unbeleivable.

listen to neiltom88 !!!!

About the worst thing you can do is start 'looking out' for side effects, you will certainly find something, side effects run at very low levels, you are unlikely to experience any.

Hey dude:

I'm taking 2mgs of finasteride a day, and I have taken up to 5mgs before. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT SIDES !

Go out and have great sex, work out, sleep 6 to 8 hours, shave your hair down and don't look in the mirror every five seconds (ok, I have done this last one) and get on with life.

This site has been damn near "taken over" by men who have had finasteride take away their sex drive, first born, job promotion, girlfriend and inheritance. finasteride can not POSSIBLY be as bad as the guys on this site say, because it would already be well known as it has been on the market for over ten years (and as Proscar 5mgs even longer I believe).

The NUMBER ONE side effect of Finasteride, is

LOWERED DHT !

Followed closely by:

HAIR MAINTANENCE

and then by:

HAIR REGROWTH.

Remember these words, my son. Be patient, take your pill, read your Bible and get on with life.

God Bless You Guys not in the 2%.

But let's answer the man's question.

Common side effects (that afflict some but not all of finasteride users) can include:

~ loss of, or decreased libido,
~ decreased erectile function,
~ decreased amt of ejaculate,
~ watery semen,
~ groin (testicular) ache,
~ brain fog (the 1 side effect I've never experienced - but one that is often reported),
~ sensitivity and pain around the nipples,
~ breast enlargement,
~ lumps in breasts,

To the other 2 percenters out there - did I miss any?

In my case, the sexual dysfunctions appeared around week 2, and the nipple pains started around week 6.

On the plus side - it's very possible that you may not experience any of the negative sides.

Or if you do - they may subside and go away after a month or so.

The other 98% (those that don't experience negative sides) also like to report that these symptoms, when they occur, can be all in your head. I'm sure that's true to some extent.

Don't talk yourself into having any of the above negative sides - but it's good to at least be informed as to what you could be in for.

Best of luck - and if you don't experience any of the negs - good for you and God bless.

Neil - good or bad, don't you think that's information one should have when starting medication?

---

(From our forum's home page . . .)

Propecia side effects

The great thing about this treatment is that you can take it for a month to see how well you tolerate it. If you notice any problems and wish to discontinue, you may do so without having done yourself any harm. Those who do experience side effects will also be happy to know that these side effects are very common at the beginning of treatment while your system is adjusting itself, and typically disappear after a couple months.

It is important that those with liver function problems consult a physician prior to taking Propecia, as it is extensively metabolized in the liver.

-----

Q: What kind of side effects can you get with Finasteride or other systemic DHT inhibitors?

A: Finasteride is the best documented of the DHT inhibitors and most people notice no side effects from it. Some people do, however, experience a reduction in libido or notice more watery semen. Some get some noticeable hyperandrogenicity, as evidenced by increased facial oil, pimples or unusually high libido. Testicular ache is occasionally noted, probably due to increased testosterone output, and the body takes time to adjust to this. (Increased T levels--15% on average in finasteride users--are likely in large part a compensatory response to reduced DHT.) Most often any side effects dissipate within 2 or 3 months. If they do not, things should return to normal after discontinuing finasteride, although this may take a couple of weeks, as finasteride has a relatively long biological effect, although a short serum half-life.

~ sensitivity and pain around the nipples, & ~ breast enlargement are precursors, or warnings of gyno.

~ lumps in breasts, = gyno

yes it rarely can cause gyno, dht is one of our main man juices in the body so you could imagine the lowering of this horomone can lead to women like characteristics

Bartman, can you back up this statement? I'm pretty sure you can't. Even the total suppression of DHT in a human male does not change one's physiology. I'm sure you've heard about all the Haitian men who produce no DHT and are perfectly normal.

Gyno is, in my opinion, one of the most overreported sides. People put on a bit of weight or start to notice that they're not quite in shape, and they come running onto hairloss forums claiming finasteride has given them manboobs.

Dominican Republican men. They do produce some DHT through Type 1 5-alpha reductase. But you're right, they don't develop b**ch tits and have normal musculature, etc. after puberty.
