Side effects a year after stopping?

Hi all,

I took generic Propecia (Finpecia) for approximately four years and then switched to Dutasteride for a few months, finally quitting cold turkey in September of 2009. The entire time I was on either drug, I noticed no side effects. Sex was good, energy levels very good, no complaints.

After ceasing the drugs, I felt just fine for several months. Around July of 2010 I started dating and noticed that it was a little bit difficult for me to maintain erection. I started taking generic Cialis and turned into a sex fiend -- often having sex 3-4 times in a row with my gal. Over the months I noticed that the Cialis becoming less potent and got to the point where I absolutely needed it just to have sex once (or twice).

Fast forward to May 2011 and I start feeling a mild pain in my penis. It's inconsistent but definitely uncomfortable, and causing sex to feel less pleasurable. As the weeks go by the pain gets gradually worse and I start to feel a dull ache in my testicles and prostate area. Then literally one night the Cialis stops working for me. I took a pill and absolutely could not get aroused. More of the same continued for a few days and now I'm in a panic.

How is it that I experienced no side effects while on the drugs and now it feels like I'm suffering with exactly the same thing the typical Finasteride sufferer deals with both on the drug and after stopping the drug? Is this happening to anyone else?

Highly highly doubtful. Go see your doctor and get some bloodwork done. You need to find out what your numbers are, asap.

I have had two blood tests done; one a few months after stopping the finasteride and another a few months ago. I don't have the results in front of me but in both cases, my testosterone, free test., estro. levels were all "in range," but we know that does not mean much. I know that my DHT increased slightly between tests (to 40) but even in the year it has been since I stopped the drugs, I have not been losing hair.

My biggest curiosity at this point is whether or not it is possible to experience PFS without ever experiencing the sides while on the drug.

Do you know your cholesterol levels? Blood sugar? It could be a cardiovascular condition that is making your ED worse.

I think if Finasteride were to blame you would have still had still have the sides right after stopping the drug.

My cholesterol and blood sugar levels all came back with good numbers in both blood tests. I'm scheduled for a visit with a urologist in approximately a month. I'm wondering if perhaps I have a legitimate prostate issue that the finasteride was treating while also slowing my hair loss.
