Hi Im 20 years old and I've been losing hair like an a**h**, I'm at a stage now where I can't afford to lose any hair. It's been really tough to say the least, psychologically it's taken it's tole on me and I'm really tired of worrying, so...I used rogaine about a year ago for 6 months I don't know if it worked or not, I feel like it did because when I stopped, I started losing like a dumb gambler. So about 20 days ago I bought ru58841 and have been using it since and I hate to say it but I don't think it's done anything. I'm gonna be moving to NYC pretty soon for school and Id love to have hair while I'm there, soo...should I try propecia? I've been scared silly by all the negatives being said about it and I know its probably a small percentage saying that but I'm asking as a kid trying to keep his youth... Should I try it?

Yes, unfortunately, the guy above me is trying to scare everyone with his story, ignore him. Try it and see if you're one of 98% of people that get no sides and keep/regrow hair.

Over 3 years on it for me. 0 sexual sides. Have kept 85% of my hair. Taking finasteride was one of the best decisions of my life.

Yes you should try it. If you get sides, go to .5mg/ day. If the sides stay, then quit. Thats advice I'd give a good friend.

I would stay away from stuff. According to Merck 1 in 50 men get sexual side effects, according to other studies it's 2 in 5 men.

Only take it when you fully understand what it does to your body and after having talked to a doctor rather than to some anonymous strangers who will tell you take a drug when are not the ones dealing with the consequences.

Also keep in mind that every hair loss treatment takes up to 6 months or even more before you can decide on its effectiveness. 20 days on RU is just a very, very early stage.

You have to be pretty gullible to believe that 40% of people who take finasteride get sexual sides. There is literally NO WAY that Merk could have gotten away with shaving 38% off that. Nothing that has that high of a likelihood of sides would have gotten FDA approval as treatment for baldness. Maybe for cancer or AIDS, but not male pattern baldness.

...I think I'm gonna try it. I'm taking the sides into consideration and based on science behind it and knowing that there's an 83% chance of success kinda gives me comfort. I've made the decision and if it's a disaster then I know that I made the decision, no regrets. It is honestly unfortunate for the ones who it effected negatively, but to tell you the truth, just recently I went through a period of confusion which comes with adolescence and alot of the sides I felt, depression, lack of interest in sex, and ultimately feeling like a shell of my former self, like so many people say on here, and that was without ever touching propecia. But I was just moping around worrying about hairloss all the time and I decided to change that and it's turned around completely. So I guess it has everything to do with the lifestyle you live and your state of being as a person. I'm gonna talk to my doctor, get his opinion and I'll go from there...this is gonna be interesting.

I've gotten some sides and I just quit because of them, not fully back to normal yet but whatever.

I'd still recommend it to anyone, even if my sides were permanent. It definitely will fix your hair. Just be aware of the risks fully before you take the plunge.

If i could go back in time and change one decision i made, it would be to go back in time and not go near finasteride.

just my opinion. Not sure how only 2% can be affected considering it lowers everyones DHT, and DHT is an important hormone believe it or not

Are you suffering permanent side effects Pyro?

Taking finasteride will undoubtably be the biggest mistake in my life. I am planning to completely change my life and live as a recluse because of what it has done to me.

Cheez, I am by no means an advocat for Propecia if you have read my posts. It killed my sex life while I was on it but living like a recluse? Seriously? Finasteride is a powerful drug that messes with your endocrine system and thus with your brain. And then there's the undoubtedly part where people just freak out and make things worse through out - the mind is a powerful thing as well.
Get away from it all for a while, stop thinking about it. Live healthy, take some estrogene-lowering supplements such as horny goat weed, and get back to life. With or without sex life, you only have this one life so don't let some drug mess it up for God's sake.

Joe I understand your situation I really do, but I think your weak. Live a little man, go feel alive, do something stupid, do something dangerous, do something your scared of doing, but all in good fun don't intentionally harm yourself or others, but feel alive man. Flirt with beautiful girls, smoke some weed, steal something, just feel good about yourself. Life takes alittle work to enjoy. GO Out AND LIVE b**ch.

#1-EVERY drug has side effects. in some people it may be mild, in others more severe. In my case, I did have side effects with Propecia....Insomnia, decreased sexual mojo, and I was also pissing every hour it seemed. Not surprising since it affects your prostate gland.

#2-I just consulted with a doctor about getting a FUE hair transplant and after we went down the list of what I have tried so far to fight my hair loss (everything....), we chatted about Propecia for a little while and he said the data out there is bullsh*t....he said that at least 80% of the patients he sees have had a decreased sexual drive while on Propecia.

Bottom line, I would stay away from it. serious. I was on it for a year, dealing with all those side effects, and the only thing it did was slow down the hair loss a little in the crown/top of the head area...not worth it. Rogaine will do the same without as many side effects.

Funny, because the doctor that I talked to said that he's had about 500 cases of prescribing finasteride (at both 1mg and 5mg [for prostate shrinkage in older males]) and he said that he could recall maybe 5-10 people who reported loss of libido, and they were ALL ones that were taking 5mg daily.

TL;DR: Everyone responds to everything differently.

I do all of that apart from really adventurous stuff. Something like sky diving?

Are you saying that if i go sky diving or rock climbing i will be cured?

I am a student, i hang around with a lot of girls, i do a lot of sport, i party maybe too much.
