I'm 21 and noticed my right temple has thinned out and that's about it but I assume its a start of something. I don't really know if I have any family history of male pattern baldness, I heard my moms father was bald, my dad still has a full head of hair, my moms brothers still have hair but one of them has receded on one side much like what I'm doing. Should I seek treatment ? Is there any way to tell how fast or how this would progress ? I style my hair to the right using glue and i'm wondering if the area that's thinned is the result of constantly being pulled to the right. I'm just wondering because my moms brother has the same receding hair but its a lot farther back but he still has hair. Not sure what to do. Thanks.:punk:

You are definitely thinning. Your hair looks good enough to save if you want to save it.

looks like you're thinning I would suggest starting finasteride.

You definitely look like your thinning, however, make sure u weigh the pros and cons before getting on propecia, and remember, propecia is a lifelong commitment. not something that u can get on for a while and then quit.

propecia is not a life long comitment you can quit any time you like, you only need to stay on it as long as you want to keep the benefits. If it works well you can stay on it, if not you can quit. How can you possibly know this before trying it?

Should be easy to maintain what you have right now. If you try.. Of course if you don't mind to spend the money, it can be transplants.

Most likely you would need multiple hair transplants..Good luck!

Well so far I've been using Nioxin which I soon learned is next to useless for treating male pattern baldness. Since then, I've ordered Revivogen shampoo and conditioner and the scalp therapy, regenpure DR for every other day, and I'm going to start propecia here soon.

When the time comes I'll be ready to buzz my hair off and get on with life, but I'm only 20 and want to have hair for the next 5-10 years.

My moms dad was pretty thin up top by the time he was 30, so genetically I know I'm fawked but having hair through your twenties is the most important time to have it. Your 20's set you up for your 30's. When you dump propecia in your 30's, you don't really need to care cause a lot of other guys will start balding around that time too so everything works out.

Not to be too optimistic anyway, but I hear a lot of treatments may be launched within 5-7 years anyway. Replicel, Histogen etc. Who knows what else may come up in that time as well.

Like someone else said - Get hair or die trying. :salut:

if he wants to jump on propecia, then he should go in with the mentality of long-term commitment. we know that propecia results peak at 2 year. so he should be ready to take it for at least 2 years if he wants to truly judge whether it's working for him or not. he's also only 21, we can easily assume that he wants to keep his hair for at least 10 years, if not longer. to me that's long-term commitment.

he seems like he's new to this. so i advise him to do his research, learn how propecia works, what it's going to do to his body, what the side effects are, and what to expect, then he can make an informative decision. i think this approach is better than the "let's jump on it and see what happens" approach.

I agree propecia is a long term commitment but thats not what you said, "propecia is a life long comitment, not something that you can get on for a while then quit"

Of course the best advice is to do plenty of research and make sure you know all the facts, but ultimately the only way to know if finasteride will work for you and is worth the potential risks, is to try it.
