Should I see a doctor before starting finasteride? +side effects

Well I was about to look up and order some dutasteride, but then I read about how dutasteride isn't nearly as studies as finasteride is, and how side-effects can last a lot longer, etc etc, so I think I'm gonna stick with finasteride, at least for now.

Anyway, obviously if you take either one it's going to f*** with your hormones a lot, and I read about people going to the doctor to get their hormone levels checked, and I was wondering if that's something I should consider doing if I'm going to start finasteride? Also, is it a good idea to take finasteride (or dutasteride) without getting a prescription? I mean if I'm taking propecia without a prescription and I go to a doctor and they need to know if I'm on any medication, and I tell them I'm taking propecia but without a prescription...is that bad?

Also, other than sexual side effects, what are the sides I'd be most likely to experience. How common is getting itty-bitty-titties (as I call them, aka moobs) on finasteride? And I read about how finasteride cures acne for some people and makes it worse for others. What's likely to happen?

Also, where's the cheapest/most reliable place online to get generic finasteride?

Also, my biggest problem is my thinning/receding hairline. Noticed it a litte over a year ago. Would using spironolactone in addition to propecia increase the chance of getting a little hairline regrowth and thickening up?

Ive been on propecia for 11 months and have experienced no side effects. About 3 months after starting I thought i was experiencing decreased libido but i realized it was actually decreased interest in my girlfriend and increased interest in other girls :p

But seriously I woudln't expect to see sides...sometimes people report side effects such as brain fog or w/e which I think is BS! But the man boob thing is DEF true. I experienced a pretty big growth in my man boobs lol....and to be honest I also started working out so I just look jacked with my large pecs.....

er, that's not exactly encouraging. "Pretty big growth" in your man boobs is what I'd call a pretty big side effect (sigh), so I find your post highly contradicting.
I already have really slight man boobs (only noticable at certain angles/with certain shirts), so that's something I really don't want to experience.

Anyway, here are some shots of my hair I just took. Sorry about the poor lighting.

I was only half serious...the real reason was probably due to working out as well. I guess pretty big growth was exaggerated but I def noticed a difference, although not enough to care about...
