Should I Get On Dutasteride? Where Do I Get It?

I have been on propecia over 2 years with no success whatsoever. The stuff hasn't even slowed down my hair loss. I honestly don't think the stuff is having any effect on my body/hair. My hair loss kicked in super fast when I was 20 (don't know why, no family history before 40 yrs old; older and younger brother have no hair loss), and I jumped on finasteride and minoxidil within months of when I noticed I was starting to lose my hair. My hair has gone to complete sh*t since I started treatments.
I recently quit rogaine because it was just a waste of money and time, and also made my hair look like sh*t. I am interested in starting dutasteride but I have no idea where to get it, and am also a little worried about taking this drug. I went to my dermatologist to discuss dutasteride, but he wouldn't even consider prescribing it to me because he said there isn't enough information on its effects on the brain, and that it inhibits type I 5ar which is highly present in the brain. Do you think it would be safe to take dutasteride at 22 years old? I hear people claim that dutasteride actually has less side effects than finasteride, but this really makes no sense at all, as it inhibits more of type II and III, but also inhibits type I 5ar. Also I feel like most of the people claiming that dutasteride causes less sides than finasteride have never used the stuff, but are basically spreading nonsense they hear online. I have been thinking about starting dutasteride for months now, but I just don't know if it is a smart decision.
Has anyone else on this board started taking dutasteride when finasteride failed them? Were any of you that did this pretty young (early 20s)? Did anyone start taking dutasteride after finasteride failed them, and have horrible results or side effects? Also where did you get dutasteride, because I feel like most dermatologists won't prescribe it as it isn't FDA approved?
Any answers will help. Thanks.

Dralex,
Do you have any theories as to what is causing it? What are your stress levels like? Do you have any other skin/scalp issues?

Been taking dutasteride for the last 4 or 5 months (can't remember exactly). Slightly puffy nipples along with minor ED in beginning. ED subsided however. Hairs thinned despite taking it EOD..

Bad mental sides.

He should be fine if he's been on finasteride for two years with no psychological or physical side effects.

Are you 100% sure it's male pattern baldness? If there's no sign of male pattern baldness in your family before the age of 40 and finasteride and minoxidil have had no affect on you, it's quite possible that something else is causing the hair loss, have you had blood tests?

My dermatologist seems to be 100% confident. It started with a receding hairline, and my hairline is receding a lot. It also started to recede fairly rapidly. Since starting propecia my hair has gotten really thin all over and also my hairline continues to recede especially at the center part. Still no bald spot on my vertex, but my hair is really thin all over now (lost at least 3/4 of my density, up to 9/10 in certain areas like the hairline).
What else could possibly cause it? And what would I get tested in a blood test?
I know other conditions can cause hair loss, but not in this pattern. I feel like the odds of me getting hair loss this early are like 1/200, given my family history of hair loss. There must be someone in my family way down the family tree that went bald young that I am unaware of. Sucks seeing my older brother (3 years older) with no signs of hair loss whatsoever, when mine is thinning rapidly even while on finasteride.

Dralex,

Have had some scalp irritation. Pretty sure I had some adverse reaction to the rogaine foam because I was getting red itchy areas on my scalp so I discontinued use and switched to liquid. I do get scalp irritation and red sore areas on the scalp much more often than prior to male pattern baldness, but unsure if related. Stress has gone up mainly from the hair loss, but other than that has remained fairly steady. My only theory to what is causing it is some aggressive male pattern baldness, that I inherited from somewhere way down my family tree.

Did you take finasteride before switching to dutasteride? If so, how long, and did you have no success on finasteride?

I was on finasteride and minoxidil for two and a half years ago with some regrowth, thickening and maintenance, added dutasteride 3x per week in May, I'd say it hasn't made any difference but perhaps I already got the best I could get on finasteride and minoxidil. It's certainly worth a try.
