Should I drop minoxidil?

Hey guys, when I first noticed my hair loss in December I got really paranoid and jumped on the Big 3 all at once. 2 months later I'm starting to regret it since my hair loss is very minor and minoxidil is kind of an overkill/pain in the *** at the moment. I was considering just finishing up the 2 month supply I have and judging dropping it based on if I see any results. In the 2 months, I have noticed SOME colorless hairs growing on my weaker temple, but otherwise that's all I can see. Realistically I'm just looking to maintain and have some thickening of my "weak" temple. Thoughts? Attached are some pictures of my hair currently and a video for a "real life" view.

I thought my crown was thinning but according to another forum and my derm it's just the part (?)

I wish I knew about the effectiveness of ketoconazole shampoo and minoxidil 12 years ago. They have definitely reduced the piles of hairs that I was finding in my shower drain. Heck, I'm even growing hairs on my ear lobes and inner wrists.

My advice? If you want to keep what you currently have then do NOT drop minoxidil! Ten years from now you will thank me.

But I thought Finasteride will help me keep what I currently have? From my understanding minoxidil is mostly for regrowth (something that I don't really need).

I'm not willing to experiment with Finasteride or Propercia or other variants at this moment. From my experience, the combination of minoxidil and ketoconazole shampoo are helping me keep what I have left. I don't notice significant "regrowth" - maybe that comes with more time. Don't we all hope for more regrowth? But, like I said, I wish I started using this stuff a long time ago.

Have a look at this video for a good example of minoxidil results between two twins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd1VQIxyK0c

Bump. Do you guys think I should maybe keep using it but just use it once a day?

And rfilbert, cool video. They def would have had even better results with Fiansteride in the mix.

I've heard that using minoxidil once a day is good. Maybe apply it once every night before bed?

I'm considering doing it, only because I have all these new hairs on my weaker temple. Kind of mad I started finasteride and Min and the same time cause now I don't even know what truly causes the regrowth.

I wasn't willing to experiment with the prostate drug, Finasteride, even though many people here claim it also works to treat hair loss. My main regimen consists of minoxidil and shampoos with ketoconazole (Regenepure DR or Big 3 shampoo). At my age, I'd love to "keep what I have" or get any regrowth results. I'll take anything, haha!

Did I mention that minoxidil is causing new hairs to grow on my ear lobes? Here's a photo:

That's some next level **** dude.

But in all seriousness, is my crown really thinning? I have people tell me I'm not it's just my part, then I take pictures of my hair wet and it looks questionable. View attachment 38364

I honestly don't think your crown is thinning. It appears to be a hair "part". How does it look when it's dry? Also, what shampoos are you using? And BTW, you have way more hair than other people, including myself, so don't feel too bad. The good news for you is that you have a chance to keep what you have by diligently using all resources necessary to battle hair loss.

Hey man thanks for the reply and kind words. I have a picture of my crown dry in my first post. Hoping finasteride can help me maintain until my mid-30s. Shampoo wise I used to use 1% Nizoral. Now I'm using 2% Nizoral once a week, Regenepure Dr 2 times a week, and some Paul Mitchell Clean shampoo on the other days.

Personally, I didn't like Nizoral because it left my hair feeling dry. Check out this video for a comparison of Regenepure DR and Nizoral: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYq0TmM7V0U

Also, have you considered using Biotin? A middle aged guy named Michael Peak was able to improve his crown area by using 5000 mcg's of Biotin for over a year. Many people also claim to get good results with 10,000 mcg's. Watch this video too by Michael Peak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLfUmOdvcM

Yeah I just used Regenepure for the first time today, I can already tell I like it a lot better than the standard Nizoral. And I take 10,000 mcg of Biotin a day too.
