Should I Continue Taking Finasteride?

I have been taking it for a week now and i have had brief periods of tingly itching on my scalp thats been occurring every so often through out the day and its something i never had prior to taking finasteride

I hear that an itch can sometimes be related to DHT attacking the hair or hyperandrogenism and if this is the case am i making it much worse by taking Finasteride? is my body fighting back and is just gonna destroy my hair?

I only take 0.5mg and as of yet i haven't had any noticeable side effects at all beyond noticing this itch and maybe a couple of red spots on scalp

I know people have said that a week isn't long enough to make any difference to scalp but this itch is telling me something is definately going on and while I scratch my scalp and continue watching it recede i am suffering from non-stop worry about whether to continue Finasteride :(

Keep taking it. You may be about to have a shed, which is fine and part of the process.

I have just read horror stories about getting this itch and it going on for months with continuing receding and people just being too afraid to stop taking it and i really want to be sure i am doing the right thing and that if its say hyperandrogenism i can catch it early :(

Heh, that is exactly me. Been on the stuff 9 months, receding rapidly since and dont want to drop it in fear of making things worse. Although, i am adding in other things to my regiment. I've now been on loniten for a few weeks and i think ( i hope ) my shed is ending and i will get some regrowth! Dont drop finasteride. Its a must in every hairloss regiment, add in minoxidil and pray you respond. There are other unconventional treatments to try that work better than finasteride! Goodluck

Is it the finasteride thats making the receding faster? if so thats f*****g scary.

Would the receding move at a slower pace if you stopped taking it? :(

Its either the finasteride or my hairloss just decided to accelerate just when i got on it.. i have a strong suspicion its the first. I was solid norwood 2 now i am norwood 2.5 :/ The loniten shed is thinning my hair further but im staying hopeful it will bounce back, if not then im hopping on the trans drugs.

Yeah tough choice if your the unlucky few that finasteride makes it worse. I would play the odds and keep on it for at least a year and half minimum no matter what.
American hair loss association first recommended treatment is propecia. There are good reasons why that is despite the endless negative press and comments on propecia its easily far and away the best thing that exists right now. Easily worth a shot despite possible negatives.

I am already receding a scary amount more than id like to be and i dunno whether its due to the finasteride as i only been taking it a week but i am getting some kind of twitchy tingly itch on my scalp and no other side effects that come with taking finasteride.

I can't help but think it sounds like a negative reaction

I really would hate to find out i was hurting myself while trying to help myself :(

I am also looking fairly tired alot lately, dark shadows and losing a fair amount of weight fairly quickly and that might be stress related but i am worried its also gonna be related to the finasteride giving a negative reaction

Heck if i ain't getting the right side effects what if i am getting the wrong ones.

If you are that concerned i would just ditch the finasteride and get on oral minoxidil while its still early in the game! The success rate is alot higher than topical and yields better results. Maybe get on RU as a topical anti androgen and you would have a solid regiment right there!

I already was on minoxidil liquid months ago for a couple of months and had some unusual painful joint side effects from it

A few weeks ago i did try the foam version for about a week hoping it would be different but stopped because of scalp irritation from it.

My scalp seems to be very sensitive to hairloss products unfortunately.

What's RU looking like as a treatment? Last time I used to post on other sites you couldn't obtain it, and it was the holy grail.

Neddy, im going to be straight up with you and tell you if you want to keep your hair you have to suck it up and deal with the side effects. Get on oral minoxidil. Trust me the joint pains will pale in comparison to the crippling depression you will experience through hair loss. Maybe try topical estradiol and/or topical androcur. We do have many options besides ' the big 3 '.

You can get RU from Anageninc.com just google anageninc RU and you will find it :)

EDIT: Its mostly just a maintenance tool, if you want regrowth its still minoxidil or more potent, feminising drugs.

The joint pain was getting bad, it felt like i was getting arthritis in my knee and wrist and it was just getting worse and worse over time till it hit me that the minoxidil might be to blame

I stopped using the minoxidil and the knee pain faded in 2 weeks and the wrist one took a little longer but did go in the end.

I then switched to trying emu oil and castor oil but while its a harmless natural way to go i don't think its strong enough to make a difference

I might try minoxidil oil/liquid again :(

I think you should consider the oral version for the reasons ive already stated. Your hair will take a hit every time you stop and restart minoxidil so if you decide to get back on it, stay on it. Emu oil and caster oil is a good idea. You will need to find an effective regiment that you can stick to, only then will you succeed. Im still chasing that, but hopefully things will turn around at month 3 of loniten treatment.
