Hi all. My current template was done in late 2019 and covers the area of my head which has thinning/receding hair. I still have good bio hair at the back and sides, and I wear it long. However one thing I've noticed is that the shape of the template is not as round or uniform as what I see on these Youtube videos and websites which teach how to make a hair system. My template is wider that the hairline than the top of the head. I guess this was because I wanted to keep the good bio hair at the sides of my head and not cut off the good bits (only the balding areas), and the original shape was done by a hair system stylist I went to when I got my first hair system.
I will start by saying, the current shape I have seems to work fine, but I want to ask, would it be better to sacrifice a bit of my bio hair at the sides to make a more rounded/uniform shape template? This would allow me to have a more consistent length all over my hair system, as well as make it easier to achieve a consistent length when cutting a stock system size to match my template?
I've attached some pics of the shape of my current hair system, template and of my head (they would not upload on here, so they are from my Google drive - hopefully they display ok). The current size of my template is about 6.5 inches from back to front, 3.5 inches wide at the top, and 4.5 inches wide for the hairline. I guess what I would do if I changed the size would be to make the wider so it'd be the same width as the hairline, 4.5 inches (I would NOT be looking to change the length of the system from back to front as this is fine).
Is a more rounded/uniform shape really necessary (for either stock or custom with long hair), and who here has a template/balding area shaped similar to mine?
(Note the bio hair in these pics was wet/messy, but looks better and thicker when washed and dried etc).
Thanks.
