Should I change doctors?

Since I started on this hair loss journey I have been working with this Dermo who is said to be one of the best Dermos in NYC. Yet when I go I get the sense that they really are not the aware. For example when I asked about the Nizoral shampoo the doctor said my scalp was not flaky so there is no reason to use it, even though later I found studies online that said the shampoo could potentially have an actual effect on hairloss.

Further the only treatments they seem to put any stock in are the two pills, and the M foam. And even then I dont get much discussion about it from them. Yet I keep reading online how hair loss should be treated on a number of fronts.

Is seeing a dermo not a good idea for hairloss? What should I look for in a doctor for hair loss. Or should this hard liners approach on "what works" be what I should expect from any doctor?

Thanks. for the advice guys, I just dont feel the support coming from my Doctor! No real advice besides "here some pills, have a nice day!"

(office is very pretty though, very calming....)

Not sure what to tell you. I went to see a Derm for my situation after my Doctor scheduled it just last week. My Doctor said he was one of the best in the area, and therefore there was a two month waiting list. I get there, tell him my story, and he just says "Try Rogaine", and after asking about the "propecia shed" he says that it isn't real. After I tell him about all of the stories in the forum about the "propecia shed" he asks, "Well, is it a medical professional forum?". Basically, he's saying that unless there are scientific studies to back it up, all of these stories that we are hearing about the shed are in our minds.

I got the "try rogaine" line as well. Isn't it infuriating? What worked for me is that I called up different dermotologists around the city and asked if they prescribed propecia for hair loss. First one who said yes I went too. He was a nice old man with a bad combover so I know he understood how it felt.

He told me that the negative finasteride effects were only reported in roughly 1% of people and that he never had a patient complain. I eventually had him switch me to generic. Once he retires, which could be soon, I will have to search for my new guy once again. About the Nizoral, it sure keeps that male pattern baldness itch down whether you're flaking or not. I do two applications back to back every other day. I also leave them both in 5 minutes. Been doing this since March of this year and it's been the only thing to keep the itch down.

Its not that stupid nizoral is technically a dandruff shampoo I mean that really is what it does. The effect on hair loss is minimal at best and could make it worse I mean go read those studies I promise you they are not as definitive as you make it sound even if people in these forums cite it like it grows back Norwood levels or something. Does regrowing 100 hairs make any difference really?
If your following their advice your doing the best possible right now like propecia or rogain. I dont think nizoral means anything in terms of hair loss its never been proven or approved for that use.
