Should I Bother With Non-fda Approved Treatments?

Hi,

I have a questions.

I started minoxidil 12 months ago and I am happy with my results. I only have some temple receding, but overall thick hair.
Tried finasteride for 4 days but experienced sides (brain fog, testicular ache, watery semen). I quitted because it just didn't feel right to continue. Sides faded away. Don't intend on restarting or micro dosing or w/e.

My question is: should I bother with non-FDA approved meds such as:
- revivogen : does this have sides? does this (partially work)?
- s5 cream
-etc.

Thx in advance.

To be honest it is a difficult question because FDA endorsement / approval is no guarantee that other solutions will NOT work.

For instance you may try:

- ketoconazole shampoos (there are studies that show how they help reducing hair loss)
- dermarolling (good studies on this too, but you have to be extra clean and careful)
- mild local anti - androgens (S5, 17-Alpha-estradiol)

This is how far I would go.

People who are more daredevils than I would suggest you might try local 17-beta-estradiol (alpicort F) or even some oral treatments like oral minoxidil or oral anti androgens (androcur, even the pill Diane 35). However, if finasteride gave you sides I guess you do not want to walk the "extreme antri androgen" route, do you?

Don't waste your term with any herbal remedy bullshit, none of it works. No science behind it, and it's all balognie.

Finasteride, and minioxidil are the only drugs that work

Yes thx.

I don't want any other things that could give me sides, also mostly prefer topical solutions.

I have some questions w.r.t. your post:
- what do you mean by being 'extra clean' and 'careful' for dermarolling?
- could anti androgen give sides? What exactly is the difference with DHT blocking treatments? Anti androgen doesn't block formation of DHT and therefore are less likely/don't result in sides?

I am basically just looking for a heuristic 'solution' (you know what I mean) without ending in an endless loop of trying things and risking sides. Just want to give it my best shot and move on, without trying silly things.

that's one way of looking at it
it's always great to be optimistic, but id rather cut the point with cutting edge solutions that actually work.

Finasteride
minixoidil

and then start looking at different alternatives or supplements to add to your main combat within the arsenal.

True, but unfortunately finasteride gave me sides and my mental sanity still is more important. Therefore finasteride is no option anymore

That's why I ask experts whether or not I should throw in the towell and just only continue minoxidil and hope for the best in the future.

never throw in the towel.

I would suggest lipogaine as your minioxidil if thats your only line of defense.

it has azelic acid in the solution which has been said to inhibit DHT to varying degrees.

If you believe that the risk of sides from finasteride are too high for you,

Then yes.

Minoxidil,Stemoxidine,Peppermint Oil works great for me. Peppermint Oil is not BS btw, it's a great anti-inflammatory.

Actually there is nothing but a heuristic approach you can use to try and fight this sh*t. Trial and error.

I suggest you try something (say S5 or dermarolling or minoxidil with anti androgens) for six months. Compare before / after pics and decide if your trial was successful or you need to test a different route.

About dermarolling: you basically dig micro holes in you head so the tool has to be extra sterilized and it is your duty.

Its pretty tough to win against male pattern baldness long term even with finasteride or dutasteride.
Long term without any anti androgen though its a losing battle, and there arent any good proven ones besides finasteride.
The amount of possible treatments that could help would wrap around the world - s5, revivogen, crinagen, lipogain, saw palmetto, green tea, and so on. They are all based on guessing and hoping because they dont have evidence they work just lots of stories.
Bottom line is use minoxidil, and if you have the time/money try some other crap. Maybe it will help a little

Best results I've seen were Finasteride+Minoxidil and hair transplant, specially all 3 combined.

When the finasteride 1mg study says there is a 93% chance of having the same amount or more hair in 10 years, and that the drug is more effective with time, but you still think it's tough to win against male pattern baldness long term
