I'm currently taking both dutasteride and finasteride, should I take both drugs at the same time or should I take one in the morning and one at night?

Also if taken in the morning and night which one is recommended to be taken in the morning and which one at night?

Thanks for reading

Since the half life of dutasteride is very long, you have the drug 24/24 hrs so there is not difference..

Its the same, just space them 12 hours.
However its redundant take both. If you want more dht inihbition just take 2 or more dutas pills

I'm interesting in knowing this also, as have heard the finasteride blocks/benefits in ways in which dutasteride does not and thus I take both (dutasteride x3 a week, finasteride x6 a week).

Ive started taking dutasteride everyday and finasteride every 2 days. Generic finasteride is so cheap, so I don't really find it a problem to take both.

Thanks for the response. With dutasteride having a longer half-life, can I ask why you take dutasteride more then finasteride and not the other way around?

As dutasteride does most of the work I only take finasteride so there are 'physically' more antagonists. I want a very high concentration of dutasteride my serum that's why I take it everyday, the finasteride is only an 'extra' for there to be more agonists so there are less DHT enzyme-substrate complexes that can arise from that 5% that dutasteride does not antagonize.

OK thanks, yes that makes sense to me. What would you recommend for me, since my situation is a little different?

I had a hair transplant (FUE) 5 months ago, with 3,000 grafts. I'm not sure whether I should maintain my current routine, potentially reduce it, or perhaps just switch it up - to something like yours, with more dutasteride and less finasteride. I have since stopped minoxidil I was informed this does nothing to newly transplanted hair.

As an addition, I maintained/improved well with finasteride for a couple of years, but wanted further results so added dutasteride. I don't think dutasteride added much (hard to say) but I continued since I want maximum effort to maintain my current hair.

If you are a good responder to finasteride than I guess you could stay with it. But Id personally go for dutasteride more than finasteride, doing that means more potent antagonists to compete with DHT, you should see less loss with that and even regrowth is possible. If you feel any sides you don't like, go back to primarily taking finasteride.

Where did you get the grafts? If you got them only on your hairline/frontal part than you should continue with minoxidil on the crown, it is really effective in that area for me. I personally go for oral minoxidil its less of a hassle to apply and gives great results. Most people on this forum are against it tho cause of hypertension so if that bothers you topical is safer.

Great, thanks. I will to switch then. Will do dutasteride 7x a week and finasteride x3 a week. If I get any sides, I'll simply switch back (thus far, no sides on anything). I notice your regimen states finasteride at 1mg. Do you take 1mg or 0.5mg every 2 days?

I got them all in the frontal area (if you're interested, my hair transplant is in the below link - I will update it at 6 months). Thanks, I will continue with liquid minoxidil in the crown. I've been off the forums for a while (except for hair transplant research). Don't know a lot about oral minoxidil. What brand is recommended/ dosage, etc? Is this approved in the US/UK? My blood pressure is at a decent level so should be fine.

Congrats on your results, looks good so far.

I take 0.5mg of dutasteride every day and 1mg of finasteride, I would take finasteride everyday but I'm on an expensive regime and don't have enough money to buy finasteride everyday as it is the one I least need, taking both everyday I guess would give even better results but that's up to you.

Oral minoxidil is what was used when Minoxidil's hair growth capabilities was found. It is not approved for hairloss tho only as a hypertensive. I am going to start taking 10mg everyday (5mg in the morning and 5 at night). I personally think its better, as it does not frizz or damp hair like the topical does and some say it is more effective than topical. Most on this sub say against it though because it raises BP, I'm someone who throws caution out the window when it comes to this stuff so maybe I'm not the best person to listen to on this, this post may help if you are interested, https://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/threads/so-i-have-just-popped-my-first-loniten-pill.107691/

I appreciate all of your info, cheers. I could take finasteride every day as it's quite cheap compared with dutasteride and I use a generic brand that I chop up, so it's even cheaper. I'll consider taking it every day, once I have taken dutasteride daily for a period of time. Do you take it dutasteride/finasteride at different times of the day, just to ease it up on your liver?

Oh so you haven't yet started oral minoxidil then? But yeah, I'd rather pop a pill then apply that stuff to my hair. I wonder if I can get loniten from my doctor as I'm perscribed all my meds - I'll look into it. My crown is fine I think at the mo (although at times, I swear its thinner then my sides, for instance) but I don't want it to become miniaturised.

I take dutasteride in the morning and finasteride at night so I don't give my liver too much work to do.

As for the minoxidil Id look for a prescription, in my state no pharmacy or hospital supplies it so I get it online, if you don't get prescription and prefer it to topical that might be the route to go on.

Even though your crown is safe for now I wouldn't take it for granted. You should take the meds before hair loss not after, people notice hairloss after they lost about 50% of the hairs in that area, so if youre not going to minoxidil there keep a close eye on it, it may save you from getting another transplant.

Thanks again for the info. I have started the new regimen today, with daily dutasteride. I'll take finasteride tonight and separately I want to research oral minoxidil more, before I decide to take that instead of the topical solution.
