Short thinning hair vs long thinning hair

Hey guys this is my first post to this forum. As my username suggests, im between a norwood 2 and 3 at 20 years old. I've been balding pretty aggressively for the past 2 years but its still not really noticeable even though i have pale skin and black hair. Luckily i had extremely(and i mean EXTREMELY) thick hair to the point where i couldnt event style it so i feel like that has bought me a lot more time than the average guy suffering male pattern baldness. I just started proscar 2 days ago so hopefully it'll do something for me. So with all that said.....

I have pretty long hair for a guy... id say about 4 inches. Unfortunately, its been getting a little too thin to style this long any more and therefore getting quite messy. Now if i got a haircut so my hair would be about 2 inches long, would my hair look better? thicker? both? My hair was that short about 5 months ago and it looked good but i feel like i lost a lot of hair in those 5 months. Would the hairs that arent strong enough to get to 4 inches right now make my hair look thicker if i cut it down to 2 inches where those miniaturized hairs can still grow to?

I appreciate any input. :)

In general if you are losing hair it's better to get a shorter haircut so that there is not a big contrast between the areas that have hair and those that do not. If your hair is quite thick and all you're worried about is a receding hairline, then you can grow it long like Ashton Kutcher and Owen Wilson to hide your bald temples.

Look at Kutcher's receding hairline:

But he has enough thickness to grow his hair out long and hide his temples:

However hair like this can be hard to maintain and is ok for a 20 year old like yourself but would look a bit silly on a guy going for a job interview at 35 years old.

I myself have good temples, NW1 - 1.5 but have diffuse thinning on the scalp. I get it cut grade 4 on the top and 2 on the sides every 2 weeks. It's very easy to maintain and there is less contrast between the thick and thin areas as the hair is short.

Thanks for the advice! Wow i never noticed kutchers hair line before its actually very similar to mine. Only difference is im thinning a bit beyond which makes his a mature hairline and mine not.

So when hair thins, are there miniaturized hairs that cant be seen because they arent long enough until you get a haircut? And i assume this would make my hair look a bit more full?

If you can't see the hair now you won't be able to see it with a shorter haircut.

Like I said the reason a shorter haircut looks better is beacuase there is less of a contrast between the thick areas and the thin areas. The longer you grow it the more obvious the hair loss is.

Look at Wentworth Miller from Prison Break, he has some thinning on top but because he cuts his hair so short it's almost unnoticeable because it blends in better with the rest of his thicker hair.

You can see he has thinning, but not that much. To the untrained eye most ppl would not think he is thinning, but to us hair obsessives it's obvious. Great hairline though.

If he grew his hair out then it would be more obvious he is balding.
