Decided to cut off all my long hair because the breakage on the top ruined it. How bad is my hair?

I'm not seeing any noticeable hairloss. But you know yourself better than I do. Have you noticed thinning?

I thought I did when it was long. I've been what I think is a norwood 2 ish since I was 17, I'm 21 now. It may have gotten a bit more pronounced but bit of recession doesn't bother me. I thought it was thinning all over top.

Yeah, there's some thinning going on there, early days though. That's why it was breaking so easily.

What I'm wondering is if theirs such a thing as it thinning slightly all over top. If it recedes a bit more it isn't a big deal. It's weird because the dimensions line up to the norwood 2 on the chart but I receded in the area above my sideburns as well so it's easier to see. What sucks is if I had even normal density hair I never would have noticed the recession.

This is a picture of it buzzed. Not a great picture but I got that straight back recession going.

Also not sure actually how receded I am these show the hairline best.

Yes thinning can happen without receding, or hair can thin faster than it recedes.

Thanks didn't know that, is this like a norwood 2 or 3? I think I will grow it out again and keep an eye on it. If I can get it to grow out healthy on top I won't worry near as much. The longer parts on top still have split ends/breakage from when it was long.

Do you plan on treating your hair loss, if that is the case?

Go see a consultant, find out for sure, get a script for finasteride if you need it, and then start growing out thicker, healthier hair. If you are thinning, and you aren't treating it with finasteride and/or minoxidil, then you're gonna have bad looking hair and eventually lose it.

Sport will prevent me from taking anything for at least another year(forbidden for doping purposes). My dad and his dad were both norwood 5 at least, my moms dad had perfect hair. I will probably just jump on treatments within couple years without having someone extensively look at it as the odds of me getting male pattern baldness are very high. My hairline has definetly receded but Ibelieve it happened all at once when I was about 17-18(May have changed a bit since but had to tell) the hairline is not what freaked me out just the hair on top(and along the sides where my helmet touched as we'll) was all broken/split and thinner. I literally have always had the thinnest hair of anyone I've known since I was a kid. Bed head make it look absolutely terrible, looks great when brushed back like in some of the pictures.

Well then get on topical spironolacetone. It's not as good as finasteride at fighting the cause of male pattern baldness, but better than nothing. It binds to androgen receptors in your hair follicles and prevents (Some) DHT from binding. DHT causes follicle miniaturisation aka thinning. finasteride isn't a narcotic or stimulant, you may be allowed to take it

You have to get an exception from the NCAA because it can be used to mask doping, not worth the hassle since I may or may not be thinning. I will look into the topicals you just mentioned if it has the same breakage problems in 6 months or so. I can easily pull of the bald look and my hair looks way way better short. I just figure might as well grow it cause probably won't be able to again(hope I still can now). Or those that said I was thinning I'm interested as to where. I'm just puzzled because my hair feels and looks way way healthier and feels better on top since I cut it and I'm curious if you have my type of hair and take really bad are of it if that could muck up the top like I experienced. Honestly if I can get the top to be healthy I would even be okay with a bit more temple recession. Is topical spironolactone expensive?
