Shedding vs Hair Loss

hair loss is when you shed and don't grow it back. Shedding isn't inherently bad, in that sense. You can shed a lot and probably still be okay.
Hell, my dog sheds big clumps of fur, doesn't mean she's losing her fur

Hair loss occurs when you shed more than you grow back. Most people with male pattern baldness shed a normal amount of hair, but the hair in the male pattern baldness zone doesn't grow back after it's shed = hair loss. A normal person without male pattern baldness sheds up to 150 hairs a day but it does not mean their hair will get thinner because the hair grows back in. Something called Telogen Effluvium exists though, where the hair sheds so much and so fast that the regrowth doesn't have time to catch up, so the hair gets visibly thinner. This condition is temporary though, and usually lasts no longer than 6 months before it stops and the hair fills back in. Hope this helped.

hi locks

my mum sheds an insane amount of hair but still she has a good head of hair. I just wanted to know whether you used to shed a lot when your hair was . . .um well normal :|.

Before my hair loss I didn't think about shedding, so I guess I wasn't shedding so much that I noticed. If your mom keeps a good head of hair despite her shedding so much, I wouldn't worry. It's what comes back (or not) after the hair is shed that counts.
