Try taking magnesium 200-500 mg a day for the extra beats. Seems to have helped me on minoxidil. Supposed to relax the heart.

    Hi laylaa

Pretty much the same. I didn’t try any further BC because my heart has been racing and producing irregularities for last few months but I’m under a cardiologist and he says they’re nothing to worry about. So I have the endo this week and will see where I go from there.

Hair is still shedding getting worse all the time and I’m hating my reflection. My 5yr old is still having issues although I’m changing her diet so I’m hoping that helps and my teen daughter had a blood test it turns out her iron is really low so I’m hoping that will rectify itself once we raise her levels. But my hair loss is still a mystery. Been 2 1/2 years now.

How about you? And your flat mate too?

    Sjw,

So strange that you and your daughters are all experiencing this. Do doctors find that strange?

Let me know how the Endo goes!

Yes it's been about a year for me now with hair loss. What's strange is how sudden my onset was. I got blood work done a few weeks back again - and it's just so strange. My iron levels are very high (too high) but my ferritin is low (in the 20s).

I'm back on yaz still for months now - not sure if that's helping at all. At this point, I am using rogaine daily. And I think rogaine is actually starting to help now. I would reccomend you give it a shot if you haven't yet. For my mental sanity I bit the bullet and went to a hair salon specializing in hair loss. I spent an insane amount of money - but I got about 40 extensions in my hair which has made me feel way way better. I cover up my thinning part with something called "style edit." So as far as how my hair actually looks - it looks "normal." (However definitely still naturally half of what I had)

Oh and yes - my roommate is still having an issue as well. But we have moved. So now I'm thinking it's just Androgenetic Alopecia at the same time (though we are quite young, in our twenties)

    Hi laylaa

So the Endo was as expected- he’s at a loss at what to do or try next. As far as he’s concerned as all my test are within normal ranges it’s not a hormonal problem. I find that very hard to believe considering this all kicked off for me when I had the coil. And I also have problems with spots, oily skin dermatitis and extra hair on the face. Although I have now noticed my eyebrows are thinning considerably.
I have a dr appointment tomorrow and I’m going to ask for yaz. As much as I don’t want to flood my body with anymore synthetic hormones I’m getting desperate and need to try. I just pray it doesn’t affect my heart rhythm again.

The drs don’t take me seriously as they see a lot of hair still on my head but this has been going on for 2 1/2 yrs and my hair used to be gorgeous it’s now dry brittle all different lengths you can see my scalp and it’s about 40% of what I had. It also only grows a few inches before it falls again. They also don’t see the girls as a problem and put it down to diet. Which I believe they have a balanced diet. My youngest is fussy yes but she eats her veg (under protest) and takes a daily vitamin.

I’m glad your feeling happier with the aesthetic way your hair looks that must help a great deal to improve confidence.
I am still using the minoxidil (rogaine) and have been for 2 yrs it helps a little but then the hair falls again. It’s mostly a diffuse shed all over but affects my temples and crown the worst (androgenic)
I now decided I hate my photo being taken and refuse to be on the other side only the camera.

I will try yaz anyway and let you know my results.

    Feeling really low today.
Was hairwash day and I’ve been keeping it all in for a while it just built up today watching how much i was losing and seeing my hairline diminish every week.
I can’t stop crying and feeling sorry for myself. I’ve tried everything lotions potions pills and lasers. Nothing works. I don’t want to attend my daughters parents evening for fear of embarrassing her. I don’t want all her friends taking the p*** coz her mum has a noticable shiny landing strip on her head!!
There are millions of people going through this and yet no way of help that actually works.
Finding it really hard to cope with at the moment.
Oh and for an added bonus I’ve started losing my eyebrows!!

    Yay for life!

So sorry to hear you're so down. I'm sure this won't make you feel better but I think your hair looks great. I see where you indicate thinning, though mine is quite a bit worse.. I don't think it's something someone would notice though.

I would be blown away if your kid or your kids friends for that matter, cared about your hair. It's something that we care about more than anyone else. Sometimes it's helpful to remember that

It sounds like your hair loss probably picked up a bit as it adjusts to the yaz - but I think in the long term it will help it. No one knows anything for sure and it's always a guessing game. I'm pretty confident I am not going to regain the hair that I've lost - but I am working with what I have and have been doing everything I can to make it look as good as I can. I reccomend you try the same. I've found these things to help:

    1) making an effort to make my hair look decent on a daily basis - showering or styling it etc
    2) using "style edit" to conceal thinning areas. It's cheap and you can buy it on amazon. My thinning is horrible on the sides. So I always use this product if I need to wear my hair up for a workout class or something. I also use it on the back of my head and to fill in areas of my hair part (I can only part in the middle now)
    3) get extensions. This has drastically helped me. Mostly from a psychological perspective. When a notice a lot of hair coming out - I have been able to almost convince myself it's my fake hair and not my real hair. This has decreased my stress as I'm not constantly checking to see how much hair comes out all the time. I think my hair loss has honestly slowed Bc I am not so stressed about it all the time

Ok so I’ve been on yaz now for 2 weeks exactly, firstly I’ve not stopped bleeding. The dr says I should persevere and breakthrough bleeding can be a normal process however more worrying is the fact that my hair is shedding rapidly!!! When I touch the hair it comes away instantly in my fingers! If I touch the sides of my head I get at least 3/4 small thick newer hairs come away and ponytail pull test will bring out at least 5 at a time then when I wash the loss is double. When I brush it’s triple the amount. WHY!!

When I tried the Dianette although I had issues with my rapid heartbeat in the 10 days I was on it my hair shed slowed down dramatically but with yaz it’s done the opposite.

I don’t think I can take any of this much longer.

    Hi Sjw1582,

I'm so sorry that the hair loss is bad at the moment.
I know exactly how you feel - I've been shedding non-stop since 2013!
For me, it all started after taking a BCP for only 2 months. However, after stopping it did not get any better, it actually got worse and now it's been shedding for FIVE years.

I wanted to ask you whether you've ever been on Yaz prior to the coil?
    Have you tried Rogaine yet?
And what about regrowth? Do you have regrowth coming in?

I also can't take this anymore, I've gotten to a point where I'm harming myself because of this.
That is why I want to either go on Rogaine or the BCP but I'm unsure which to try first.

Let me know how things are going with Yaz, maybe it's just seasonal shedding and has nothing to do with the pill.

I wish you all the best xx

Five years is a long time to deal with this and I completely understand the psychological damage it is having however harming yourself is not the answer. Please please stop. If things are hard to cope with and I know how that can get believe me I’ve been there and had the feelings too; speak to someone a friend family member or even a professional. Drs as it seems are of little help when it comes to hairloss at least general drs are in my experience. They don’t seem to see hairloss as much of an issue when it’s unexplained as it’s more cosmetic. But there is a lot of support and surprising it’s so common.

In answer to your questions I believe this was kicked off 2.5yrsago when I had the Mirena coil fitted. As 3 months after that my hair she’d started dramatically it went on in a Telogen Effluvium she’d for 3/4 months then stopped for 4 months then it started for no apparent reason and hasn’t stopped since even though I had the coil removed in Nov16. I went a year without anything in my body trying to get my hormones back on track but the shedding continued and in Nov 17 I tried the Dianette pill after 10 days it had a huge affect on my heart rhythm so I stopped taking it. Downside was that the shedding was majorly reduced after only 10 days. Anyway now I’ve started the yaz and so far it’s not going great.

I have been using minoxidil 5% (regaine) for 2 yrs now it does have an effect and brings in new growth thicker however for me I still have issues with the regrowth shedding. It only seems to get about 2” before it falls. It also doesn’t seem to work much on the crown area. It can cause headaches and some sore patches if you’re sensitive but as it’s topical I haven’t had any other side effects from it. This hasn’t been much help I know, But just remember you are not alone. I do believe it is BCP and the sort that has started this off and it’s crazy that we resort to the same thing to stop it. But after trying other things this is my last solution and if it doesn’t work then I’m at a loss.

Good luck and keep us posted if your progresses or otherwise.

If you need to chat/offload or just shout out “it’s not fair!!” I completely get it and am here to read it.

    Sjw1582,

I know the self-harm is stupid and I'm trying to get away from it. It's just that I feel like the hair loss is robbing my youth. This all started shortly before my 19th birthday and I'm going to turn 24 this summer. I've not worn my hair open in public for five years. My hair was always thick, healthy and went down to my hips - I made the prettiest dutch, french and rope braids or any hairstyle for that matter. Now I cannot even wear a simple ponytail because it looks horrendous. To make everything even worse, I started spotting grey hairs last year. In 3 years I went from having the most beautiful long hair to getting every bad condition you could possibly have on your scalp. (Hair loss, Psoriasis and Greys) It's making me severely depressed. But I sincerely thank you for your kind words! It always helps to chat with people who "get" you.

Im curious, did your initial Telogen Effluvium stop while you were still on the coil? I'm just wondering, maybe that second Telogen Effluvium was kicked off by having the coil removed? Because my shedding started after one month on the pill and then actually got WORSE after stopping it.

I'm so sorry that you experienced such severe side effects from the Dianette, especially because it was helping! Maybe Yaz will also help and the shedding you're currently experiencing will temper off. Have you ever taken Yaz before your hair loss started?

I really do believe that BCP is evil. It's was started this nightmare! These pills get marketed as "lifestyle products" giving you great skin and hair - when women have actually died because of BCP-induced thromboses and the like. But I've now tried everything except for Rogaine and another pill. These were the two things I've always tried to avoid - but after 5 years of non-stop shedding I'm now resorting to these extreme measures. I'm just not sure what to try first..

I'm probably going to start with birth control and if it makes everything worse then go for the Rogaine.

    xx

I hear you! It’s really not fair. I wish I’d researched more before putting these chemicals into my body.

I too developed scalp dermatitis when my shedding started I also seem to get more greys although I am 35.

The Telogen Effluvium was kicked off by the coil and didn’t stop during or after but it did kick off Androgenetic Alopecia for me also which I don’t have a family history of.

I’ve heard lots of conflicting things about the rogaine but for me it was given to me as my first option and I’ve used it for a long time now so I don’t see much harm but obviously starting does mean you see a slight increase in shed as you get used to the treatment.

Let us know how you get on... i trawl through these forums and rarely see success stories I think when someone is successful they forget to post so fingers crossed things start to improve and you can share your progresses.

I really hope that Yaz is going to help you, it probably needs time.
What I hate about this disease is that it always takes so long to try just one treatment.
Anyway, if your Telogen Effluvium really did kick off Androgenetic Alopecia then the BCP should definitely help as it is anti-androgenetic.

Can I just ask you what made you decide to go for Yaz instead of any other BCP?
Have you taken that one before?

    xx

I’ve never taken yaz before now. I’ve used plenty but after the Dianette I thought I’d try one of the very few that might help, And that’s the reason I chose it for its anti androgenic properties. Fingers crossed it will help. Having dark hair doesn’t help with the landing strip and monk spot! If I’m going out anywhere special I tend to colour it or use fibres but that also makes the scalp itchy!

    Gah...xx
