On second thought, I think Dutasteride whether every day or three days a week is too strong a treatment for you at your age and with your level of hair loss. Its hard to tell from your pictures if you even have any hair loss. If you do, it is only very minor so far. I agree with the other posters that you should just keep an eye on your hair over the next few months and see if it gets worse.

Dutasteride is the stronger of the two because it inhibits DHT more potently. Therefore, it has a greater prevalence and severity of side-effects.

I believe the side-effects from Finasteride are more common than the 2% prevalence that Merck reported, but a lot less common than the impression given by many users of these forums. I'd say that about 20% of users get side-effects to some degree, of whom about 2% have sides that are severe enough that they need to stop treatment. Dutasteride would no doubt have a greater incidence of sides. Probably not hugely greater, just a little bit greater.

There's an additional concern with Dutasteride however, which is the fact that it inhibits the type 1 5AR enzyme which is present in the brain tissue in measurable amounts. Finasteride does not inhibit the type 1 5AR enzyme, only the type 2 enzyme. It is not yet known what the long-term implications could be of inhibiting the action of this enzyme that is present in the brain. So that is an additional risk with Dutasteride.

There is no scientific basis for the belief that Dutasteride can "ruin your hairline". It is an idea that some members of these forums seem have got into their heads and which keeps getting tossed around, but it is not backed up by any scientific evidence or logic.

Thank you for your analysis, I am reconsidering my options but would still like to say 'experiment' with both finasteride and dutasteride before I come to an actual conclusion. From what I know ever since Post Puberty my mind has been very very foggy, despite this I am somehow able to manage pretty decent grades. I would like to see if there is any actual decline or increase in my IQ when I am on and off dutasteride... I will try this once I am above 24 (thats when brain development stops 'supposedly'), to do this I will take proper IQ tests before 6 months of dutasteride usage and after 6 months to see if there is any actual change. Until then I will listen to your advice and maintain on finasteride...

Plus it will help that I am going into medicine...

There's no such things as too much DHT, you just hit puberty early, i agree with @AnxiousAndy, start with finasteride

Besides you talk about thinning on pic 1, pic 1 is a pic of your sides....Male pattern baldness starts by thinning your top, not your sides

Actually, there doesn't have to be any specific pattern to the thinning... male pattern baldness can come in different combinations

I'm still not sure you're balding actually, how many hair do you loose a day ? did you see a derm ? how many hair on your pillow in the morning ? In your shower ?
That's more relevant than pulling your sides to see a little scalp

Currently I have curbed the problem, it doesn't necessarily have to be the 'now' that I should live in but in the inevitble future as it can begin at any moment looking at my current hairline... But If you are asking, my room's floor is entirely filled with hairs all the time.

I don't see more than 1 or 2 hairs on my pillow these days... However there was an excessive period when I was 13-14, I was losing clumps and clumps of hair in shower everytime I put my hand through my scalp.

I have somehow been maintaing on Essential Oils (I think) for now. But I fear for the worst because my brother's hairline is effectively a female Hairline and in comparison mine has become somewhat receded and when I compare it to my juvenile hairline which was completely round (my nw1) it seems that I have receded quite a bit. Not to mention my thin corners and sides...

I understand how my insane density can create the illusion that I might never recede or currently am not but honestly we can never tell... I can assure you when I was younger I remember my hair being so dense that I couldn't even run my hands throughh it and my hairline was a lot lower and thicker on the sides.

Well from my personal experience my bed and pillow were litteraly infested by hair everyday at 15, changing sheets everyday, next morning it was the same, i'm talking about 100-200 hairs per morning when i woke up

However, you do understand why I would resort to such a strong drug right? I mean, its pretty depressing if you think about it.
But sacrifices have to be made for what people value, I value my hair because it has always been a very 'distinct' part of my identity... From my perspective losing this characteristic is equivalent to losing my own identity. I don't play different characters in my world. I only play my the role of my own character, that has always been with my hair. No worldly or biological function can overwrite my will... Stupid genetic inequities.

Ps. Everyone hates losing... . Though we men might disregard it as for our role as men. I do believe that we all care deeply for our manes

I understand dude, don't worry. But i still suggest you start with finasteride, if this fails you'll still have dutasteride to try, but started with dutasteride is a bit harsh man, you don't know yet if you will respond well to 5AR
