More people are strongly irritated by the PG in minoxidil than by the SLS in some shampoos. Yeah, SLS can cause nerve damage, and PG does not seem to. But check this out:

Watch out for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. The Laureth is less than half as bad. Also the Sarcosinate is OK too, and Glucosides are a modern foamer that are really nice if you can get them.

Just saying that just because you see SLS, like Sodium Laureth Sulphate, does not mean it is all bad. I'm sure most of the bad hipe you hear is about the Lauryl Sulphate, not the Laureth.

I suppose it also depends on the percentage in the formulation. I have real problems with face washes etc that have a lot of surfactants, but I tolerate Cetaphil really well. I think it has 1% SLS.

According to consumer reports, Baby shampoo is too gentle for adult hair, especially if you have hair styling products. Also, most shampoos with herbals stuff in them don't have enough in there to do anything.

That said, I'm not going to bother getting moogoo. I'd take it if it were available I guess, since it has to say in 5 minutes. But I think my baby shampoo days are good enough for me. I can stop the time wasting quest for a gentle shampoo. That said, there is something worse than SLS: ALS. It has ammonia instead of sodium.

Bad:
methylisothiazoline
benzine sulfonates
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
Sodium chloride

Good:
cocamidopropyl betaine
Modified cellulose
sodium citrate

------------------------
JJ baby shampoo:
Water, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium
Trideceth Sulfate, Glycerin, Lauroamphoglycinate, PEG-150 Distearate,
Sodium Laureth-13 Carboxylate, Fragrance, Polyquaternium-10,
Tetrasodium EDTA, Quaternium-15, Citric Acid, D&C Yellow #10, D&C
Orange #4

It took some searching, but I found it.
Neutragena Anti-dandruff shampoo (Greasy) T-Gel, with Piroctone Olamine:
Ingredients:
Aqua, Sodium C14-16 olefin sufonate (second biggest irritant), cecamidopropyl betaine, salicylic acid, polyquaterrnium-22, cacamidopropylamine oxide, piroctone olamine, sodium citrate, linoleamidoporpyl PG-Dimonium chloride phosphate, hexylene glycol, parfum

If this is the same shampoo that was in that study, which I think it is since Neutragena would have the money to pay for the study, then the active ingredients are:

Salicilic Acid 2%
Piroctone Olamine 0.75%

The benefit of Moogoo is it is 500mL instead of 250mL. However, it does not have salicilic acid or the other chemicals that may function as carriers.

funny how a study says this stuff grows hair, and I get worried about one of the ingredients in it, when I only plan to use it once every 4 days. Here is the other shampoo with piroctone olamine, and gentler, but not Proven:

http://thebodyshop-au.yahoostore.com.au ... 1107385642

Much cheaper here:
http://www.amazon.com/Body-Shop-Ginger- ... B000K79B6C

I don't even know if I want to pay $20 for TGel out of the country, when I can get this stuff for $10. I'm just bothered that Sodium Chloride is the next ingredient after Piroctone Olamine on a long list. Maybe most of those things are 1%. I know the Nedirection piroctone olamine shampo is less than 0.5%.

The ginger stuff has great reviews as working, so it must have a decent amount of the olamine in it. And unline the T/Gel, the ginger stuff does not stink.

I emailed them asking how much is in there. As for the ginger, I'm sure 4 drops in 250mL is plenty. So that is like 0.05%, so I don't mind it being at the end of the list. I actually won't buy the NewDirections stuff because they put 1% of each of those essential oils in there, which I think would burn my scalp.

now they are charging me $4.60 sales tax. Why does that bother me so much when I'm getting free shipping. Had to buy $55 worth, though. I'll sell 3 to my brother.

I use Tgel 5 times a week after having read the study re hair thickness, etc. I emailed Neutrogena asking the percent of PO in Tgel and they replied saying they were not able to disclose that information, so thankyou for providing the 0.75% figure for me :). My scalp has been itching a bit recently but i've attributed this to switching back from PG free minoxidil to PG minoxidil, however I suppose I might be overusing the Tgel somewhat.
Thankyou for the info.

You will get better results if you rotate it with Nizoral 1%. Since Nizoral is cheaper, do TGel MWF and Nizoral 1% TThSS. I still say removing a day from each to use some baby shampoo with GTE or apple poly in it would be good.

and wash your nose with this stuff. If your nose is bulb shaped, I bet it is because the androgens are making the tissue grow. Look what it does to the big pores.

what androgens make your nose grow now?

your nose and ears NEVER stop growing anyway and your eyes are the same size throughout your lifetime

something tells them to grow, and something could slow that down. I think it might be androgen driven. I also think that pore size is partially androgen driven. I hope my face wash helps minimize it.

why do you think it may be androgen driven....scientists have no idea why the cartilage in your nose and ears continue to grow throughout our lives....but ccs thinks its androgen driven?

I don't know, but we get hairier our whole lives, and that is DHT driven, and we make more DHT as we get older, and we have bigger pores on our noses than anywhere else, and DHT does make a lot of stuff grow. Testosterone makes our muscles grow. So I still don't know, but I just suspect it plays a part. Even if it does not, at least my pores won't keep getting bigger.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinophyma

Rhinophyma is a descriptive term for a large, bulbous, ruddy appearance of the nose caused by granulomatous infiltration. This is commonly due to untreated rosacea.

No known factor is known to cause this disease. It was once thought to be caused by alcohol consumption but that has proven to be false. It is derived from the Greek rhis ('nose') and phyma ('growth'). Rhinophyma may be diagnosed without testing, but a skin biopsy can confirm the diagnosis. Surgical treatment may be beneficial.
