Sexual sides on finasteride....so what are my options?

Pretty much what the title says. I'm not trying to scare anyone off finasteride - it is clearly a great drug. I mainained a fair amount of hair and probably regrew some on the 5 or so months I was on.

But I was one of the 2 or so % that suffered sexual sides. I thought it would go away at first ... but as I wasn't in a relationship I couldn't REALLY analyse too much. The first week my libido felt dead...then it upped a bit. I could still feel aroused and jack off so thought things were ok...but then I found a girlfriend and had trouble getting/keeping it up so clearly I suffered sides that couldn't be worked around.

It's not fair...it's sh*t, but oh well I'll have to find another way to fight baldness. It could happen to anyone and I'm just one of the unlucky ones. The last couple of months I've been more concerned about having great sex as my libido is back to business:)

But I've just had a haircut and the awful feeling of how thin your hair is has returned, any hair grew has probably shed by now and it's noticeable after being cut - so let's carry on the fight. I'm also on minoxidil but not generic regaine - a special solution of around 6% with zinc in as well. I may ask the Doctor making it to see if he can raise the % of minoxidil but I need a dht thing.

From what i see my options are:

- Reduce finasteride dosage. I WAS on generic propecia so I could always just split the tablet in half and hope sides aren't bad. I don't know how effective this is for hair or libido though

- Dutasteride. If I explained to the Doctor who gave me finasteride I suffered sides he MAY be willing to try this...as I've read finasteride side sufferers don't suffer with dutasteride.. What do people think?

- topicals. But are they any good?

- Continue with finasteride and rely on Cialis / v**** / Casaber/L-Arginine. In the first few weeks I took Casaber and Cialis, party 'just in case' and partly for fun ;) But I don't really want to rely on these drugs all my life alongside finasteride. L-Arginine doesn't seem to do much - it's just a little pill you can get from Holland and Barrets..not a miracle worker!

So what are the best options for a 21 yr old male with thinning purely at the crown.

Any help is appreciated.

I've been off finasteride a month or two and my libido is fine. So that's all good.

Sorry I did not read your post. I'm just responding to the headline.

1. Without an internal, you have to apply topicals to your whole head, not just the balding area. Since topicals can get messy, I suggest using SODs like folligen and Tricomin or AC spray. These do some preventative work. Minoxidil does not stop baldness, it just gives you extra hair while you use it, and you still continue to bald.

2. RU in the right vehicle is probably as strong as propecia, but you can't afford it and there have been not tests on hair like that, so I'm just guessing based off it's effects on sebum glands.

3. spironolactone cream for very thin areas and Eucapil for denser areas, or revivogen for both, or a combo, are your main DHT fighters. They probably are not as strong as propecia, but they have worked on some people here without propecia. So if your male pattern baldness is not too agressive, you have hope. Even if they don't save your hair, they can maybe prolong it until HM gets here.

4. Proxiphen cream is expensive and good for hair lines.

hey,
i was in the same situation. Started finasteride when i was 20 and experienced sides and inconsistancy with libido. This freaked me right out. However i knew i woud be more freaked being bald at 25. I started taking half propecia .5 mg of finasteride. I can honestly say that it has worked. I have maintained my hair and have increased thickness at the rear and vertex. I am now using spironolactone 5% on the hairline and frontal region. I an not using minoxidil yet, but may add it in the future.

what's a SOD? And what's RU? Revivogen seems to be a pretty well known thing though...

unfortunately having had similar reaction to the finasteride, i stopped. did the v****,cialis, or whatever option work ok? does that involve going back to the Doctor and telling them your hair med has created a need for another erection med? or is there somewhere reputible you can just order some v**** from and see if it works out?

I am considering buying v**** or cialis from one of those online drugstores. I have the same sexual sides from finasteride. I am sure you can find a reputable one with a little research.

if someone knows of a reputible one or how to research one, i guess it's worth a try.
