Hi all,

I just wanted to check in and say that--with the help of DHT-inhibitors, minoxidil, and nizoral--I've retained almost all of my hair.

I was on the fast track to going bald.

My older brother is completely bald, and consequently began losing at the same time. He never used a single treatment.

I'm willing to answer a few questions tonight, if anybody has any.

Keeping the scalp clean is a big part of it. I shampoo daily with Head and Shoulders. I feel that keeping the dandruff down is a big part of slowing down hair loss.

I used to use copper peptides, which I still recommend if you have the money.

Folligen made me itch pretty bad. Also, it was messy.

I don't recommend unless you've exhausted all options. I really don't think there's much regrowth potential with it, either.

How much older is your brother?
What about hair types? Does your older brother have/had lighter coloured hair than you?
Type of hairloss? Did you have temple recession or bald spot? What about your brother? Did he have diffused thinning?

- Are you getting your drugs from a pharmacy near you or overseas online?
- Why the switch between dutasteride and finasteride?
- Which did you start with and which are you currently on now?
- Do you believe Minoxidil is playing the large part in keeping your hair and growing it?
- Based on the Norwood scale, what was your Norwood when you started & what's the highest scale that you reached during these years?
- What treatment advice would you give a young newbie that has temple recession hair loss?

Thanks.

Brother is three years older.

My brother had fine hair, and mine is wavy. It's the same color.

We both have temple recession. He lost everything except for an island in his hair, which is now almost gone, too. His hair wasn't diffuse thinning--it was classic balding. There's nothing left there, now. (As for me, I have a diffuse 2V, I think, would be the best placement.)

I order Fincar online.

I switched from dutasteride back to finasteride because of the cost. I went without health insurance for many years, and I paid a LOT of money for dutasteride. Now that I'm back on health insurance, I may go back to dutasteride. I liked it better.

I started with Propecia and Rogaine. I'm still on them now, but I benefited most from Avodart and Rogaine.

Minoxidil question: Yes, I think if I were to stop it, most of my hair would fall out. I would probably say that I'm very dependent on it.

I've always been about a 2 on the Norwood scale. I once had a quarter-sized baldspot develop, and I've suffered from serious shedding at times, causing me to think Norwood 3. Long story short: I started NW2, then progressed to a NW3, then finally went back to a NW2 with some vertex thinning.

Never, ever stop or switch treatment until you've given a product a year's time. The results will come. Maintenance will be achieved in 90%+ of users on the Big 3.

You got it.

Aplunk,

Are you finding Head and Shoulders to be more beneficial than Nizoral?

Did you notice any appreciable difference between finasteride and dutasteride?

How difficult was it to obtain dutasteride?

when you used copper peptides, which kind did you use?

Tricommin works the best. AC Revitalize worked, too.

any new gains or just maintain?

Throughout the years, I've shed and gained. Overall, I've maintained my hair with some regrowth. I think I'm a typical responder.

Aplunk,

I actually use both. Head and Shoulders is great for volume. So, two or three times a week, I'll put a dollop of Nizoral into the Head and Shoulders, then I lather in.

They both have beneficial effects--but Head and Shoulders is so much easier on the scalp.

Yeah, dutasteride works better. It gave me a good deal better coverage. I wrote a whole post on it--if you search Aplunk1 and Avodart, you'll find a lengthy post I wrote about my experience on dutasteride.

It's pretty simple to get dutasteride. It's not a controlled substance.

Your doctor prescribed it for you for hair loss?

Good results by the way, would love to see a more recent pic though. Keep up the good work.

sides or not that makes me really want to use dutasteride

@Ohio @Rutt
Please see this link. It's a pretty thorough experience I wrote about Avodart a couple years ago: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=47746&view=next

Yep, getting dutasteride should be a piece of cake. Some doctors won't budge, but many, if you live in a big city, will acquiesce in front of a well-researched patient. Just firmly tell them that you want something stronger to treat your hair loss. Thank you for the good words. I'll get to uploading a more recent pic in the near future.
