Hi! I had a question and was wondering if some of you guys can give me our input. I'm 24, have always had thin hair, but I had to go on accutane a couple years back and it caused my hair to really thin out especially in the front and back. Anyways, i've been using rogaine, nizoral and propecia for about 6 months now and I honestly don't think my hair has improved much. If I look closely at my head I can see tiny hair follicles surrounding the small patches of thick hair, but they are weak and do not grow at the same rate as the rest of the healthy hair on my head. My quest is do you guys think I should give up after 6 months or should I just ride it out? BTW i'm currently shaving my head #0 if that's of any help.

Thanks in advance.

Shaving at #0 will not allow you to accurately judge results, as the main benefit of Finasteride is that it actually thickens up your existing hair instead of growing it out new. If you grow it out, there is a good chance you will notice it come in thicker and fuller.

You should see results from minoxidil after around 3 months. If you don't see anything after 6, chances are it won't work for you. finasteride on the other hand, some people dont see results until 2 years, and the growth usually tops out at 3 years. However, it's different for everyone, and 1/3rd of finasteride users see absolutely no growth; only maintenance & thickening. 9/10 see cosmetic improvement on finasteride, which means thickening, regrowth, or a combination of both.

Thanks for the advice! Greatly appreciated. I've also been thinking about letting my hair grow out a lil bit to see what it looks like, but just from seeing what it looks like when it's growing out past the #0 it quickly makes me change my mind. Some of the hair grows in with the rest of the normal hair on the side of my head and looks the same, but a lot also grows in very, very slow and very weak and frail looking.

Consider Rogaine foam if your not using it already and give both drugs ( foam and Propecia) at least one year, oh and use the Rogaine all over your head not just a half capful or whatever they reccomend as that's only for the crown and I have had growth all over from the foam.
