Hey guys!

I've been having bad scalp inflammation for a while now. My scalp can look pink to reddish and usually is painful to the touch or when it is moved. It feels kind of like a bruise on my scalp. Washing my hair usually relieves the pain but it comes back usually by the next day. Sometimes it seems to go away for days and comes back randomly. It also doesn't seem to have a preference on location, it just seems random. Maybe more so on the upper sides of my head.

I also sometimes get huge flakes of dandruff at the front of my hairline and smaller flakes throughout my hair. I've tried many dandruff shampoos before (head and shoulders, selsum blue, nizoral, ciclopirox, t gel..) some seem to work slightly maybe but I still get dandruff. I've never ever had dandruff in my life before recently.

I wash my hair once every 2-3 days and this usually leaves around 100-150 or so hairs in the drain. I used to have hair down past my chest and would always clog up the drain every shower. Not sure if that's because longer hair takes up more space and I've always lost the same amount of hair or that I'm losing more now? Never counted it in the past but there would always be a huge glob in the drain.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms before? And ideas what this could be? All help is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post and thank you!!

Definitely had the same experience. I had really long hair until I was twenty three, and I decided to get it cut short.
Nothing wrong with long hair though.

Hair length has nothing to do with it though (dandruff and itching, definitely not related).

However, if you pull your hair tight, in a man bun or in a pony tail, that can lead to hair loss. The dandruff could be an allergic
reaction (water, something your washing it with, and believe it or not, a food allergy.

Also, if you dye your hair and the roots, that can cause damage. Especially if it's left in too long.

Stress can make hair fall out months later, believe it or not, after a really stressful event (or something perceived as one).

So, there are many causes.

You should go to an Endorcrine doctor, in my opinion. And check your thyroids. Low thyroid activity can cause a dry scalp, which
equals dandruff/itching.

Thanks for the response!

I used to put it in a pony tail when it was long like 2 years ago but I never had any pain then and the pain only started about a year ago. 2 years ago is when I cut it shorter.

I've never dyed my hair before.

I'm always under lots of stress due to personal reasons and I started going to a psychologist two weeks ago for this reason so hopefully that helps!

I was thinking an allergy could be it. The last time I had bad scalp pain came abouy after going out and drinking around 6ish beers and eating a lot of bread. Before that the pain was gone for a few days and then that next morning my scalp hurt..

My scalp isn't all that itchy, just painful more than anything. I'll look into seeing an endocrine doctor. Thanks!

Also beer has been giving me bad indigestion especially if I drink while eating.
