This is my first time posting here about my hair, I am 15 years old and the scalp of my head can be easily seen, because you can see through my hair. I tried alot of medicines, like vitamins and all, but after 3 years I still see no difference. Should I be afraid because I am that young?
Anyhow I hope you guys can give me some advice for my hair.
Here are some pictures of my hair:

It does look like your frontal hair is thinning. That is really strange considering at the time you starting noticing you were 12 years old. You should make a visit to the dermatologist.

Mine had started just like yours. With time, that thinning is gonna expand and your crown will start thinning as well. Considering you are only 15, it is really strange.

Ok. As someone who is an aspiring Doctor and has a few Dermatologists in my family, I know all about hair loss. First thing's first, the chances of you having male pattern baldness before the ages of about 19ish is about 0% to 0.00000000001%. This is because Male Patterned Baldness, even in the worst of the worst, and extremely very rare cases hits no earlier than right after puberty has settled. Do not listen to these people. Most of them that are members of this forum/website do not really know what they are talking about at all. And I have noticed that there is a some type of social stigma on this entire website that pushes members to convince other concerned members who post threads into thinking that they are losing their hair, when they are really not. Here are a few things you should know.

1) there are about 100 things that lead to hair loss such as poor diet, dry hair, scalp calcification, and stress. All of these things can be completely reversed. male pattern baldness, especially before the ages of about 35-40 is the is one of the less likely of causes.

2) Already thin hair, especially at your age does NOT indicate that you are losing your hair, or that you will ever lose your hair. You can have the thickest head of hair in the world and still go bald by the age of 20, or you can cave the thinnest hair in the world and die at age 99 with a full and luscious head of hair. There is zero correlation between hair thickness/fullness and going bald. Only other factors, especially genetics will determine whether or not you will go bald sometime in the distant future.

3) Everyone's hairline is different. The front of your hairline look's exactly like one of my very good friend's hairline. And he's had the exact same hairline since I could remember. He is over 30 now and has a beautiful set of hair. His hair is also very thin, and always has been thin. Your sides look exactly like how anyone's sides, male or female would look if their hair was longer and pulled towards the back or in a pony tail. Just look up pictures of male celebrities with ponytails. The side of most people's hair around the temple area are just naturally thinner.

4) Just because You can see your scalp at the front and side does not mean you should freak out. Some people's hair are naturally thinner at the front, which makes the scalp more visible.

5) when you become an adult, you should never worry if your hair is thin, you should only ever worry if your hair is getting Thinner. Like I said, Many people just have naturally very thin hair. That does not mean they are going bald, or will ever go bald.

6) You lose about 100-150 strands of hair per day. Most of that amount will fall as you take your daily shower. So do not freak out about finding strands of hair on your hand while your washing you hair. That is completely normal and expected. On top of that, if you take showers less frequently, like every other day, or once per 3 days, then you will notice wayy more hair falling out due to all of that build-up.

7) Just a heads up, when you get older, somewhere between the ages of 18-30, your hair will most likely recede anywhere between 1-2 centimeters. This is called a "maturing hairline" and that happens to every guy. It does not mean you are going bald, or have male pattern baldness, it just means you're losing your baby hair, and your "Adult" hairline is starting to show. You should only get concerned if your hairline recedes back more than that, though. Also, do not worry about any thin and/or short strands of hair along you hairline. That is also part of the baby hair that you have. It will eventually go away as you get older,

8) When you are much older, the only way to know for sure that your hair is receding or thinning permanently is if you go and consult a dermatologist or hair loss specialist. They will run blood-tests and do a scalp Biopsy to tell you. Do not come here asking these people for advice, because sadly, most people in this forum do not really know what they are talking about.

9) DO NOT come visit this website until at least another 4-5 years. This forum is not for people as young as you because you should not be worrying about hereditary hairloss, especially male-pattern baldness at your age or anywhere near your age. BECAUSE YOU MOST LIKELY CANNOT GET IT THIS YOUNG.

10) If your hair is actually getting thinner right now, then go see a Dermatologist right away. Because it is most likely not male pattern baldness, but some other condition like a thyroid problem, bad nutrition, or environmental reasons. All of these things can be reversed if you get it treated and the hair-loss caused by it will 100% grow back!!

I Hope this helped. If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to let me know. Good luck, and don't worry!!!

I would have to disagree with you. Having family member that are dermatologist doesn't make YOU a dermatologist nor a hair expert.
The first thing you brought was the % of hair loss in age (which you are wrong), if you ask any dermatologist or hair specialist they would tell you the chance of hair loss at 20 age is 20% at 30 years old 30% and so on, so even at 19 you might experience hair loss.
1) There are indeed many things that could lead up to hairloss but most case on male it's gonna be male pattern baldness. I myself was looking for other factors that might have cause me to have hair loss but it was just me in denial.
2)have you look at the picture his hair is not just thin it look like he almost has a bald patch at his front hair. And your right, hair loss can affect you at any age but typically the earliest it affects you the worst it is.
3) Your right everyone has different hairline different hair type. And I do find his hair loss strange since it's just the front are affected. But men with ponytail don't look like that even those one who experience hair loss. ( take a look at this soccer player, he has male pattern baldness but doesn't have that thin hair at the frontal hair)
4) Again LOOK AT THE PICTURES you don't just see his scalp but you could almost just count his hair which is not normal.
5) In this point you just repeated what you have said.
6) There is nothing I can argue with you in here. The hair we lose on the shower is generally hair that was going to fall.
7) Mature hairline does occur, but we're talking about him starting to notice changes at 12 years old which is not normal.
8) That is the advice I gave him since his hair does looks strange. I understand people on this site jump to conclusion really fast but still they do know that something about hair is off.
9) Hair loss can happen at any age, the chances of getting it so young are really minimal but still possible.
10) Again I do feel like his hair loss is really strange and it might not even be male pattern baldness. But his hair doesn't look normal.
Next time you comment please do some research or ask your family member who are dermatologist about it. I am not a hair expert but his hair is not normal as your saying.
Either way, lets just see what his dermatologist say worst scenario it could be is male pattern baldness.

I completely agree with you. In fact, your first comment that you made on this thread was my favorite. Hats off to you. What set me off was the guy that straight up said "male Pattern baldness". He was irrationally putting fear into this poor kid's head. Second thing, I said that in the worst cases, Male pattern Baldness DOES occur at age 19. And the Thing that We need to focus on was that this kid said that he noticed his hair was "thin" Since age 12. He never said that he noticed it getting thinner. And it has continued to stay the same for 3 years with no change. At age 11, I also noticed that my hairline was very uneven and v-shaped. I freaked out like he did. And now I am 21 with a full head of hair. If I had posted my picture on this website at that age, everyone would be telling me that I have male-pattern baldness, or at best, telling me that something was very wrong. It turns out that it had always been my natural hairline, and I probably started to notice it at that age because I had reached the point in my life where looks started to actually matter (middle school, hello?) which is why I started to examine my physical traits a lot more closely like any normal teenage boy who is on the verge of puberty would start to do. Don't you think that this is the more likely case for this kid? I mean think about it. He started to notice it at age TWELVE, the age where puberty and the horrors of middle school and adolescence begin. And it has not changed at all for three years. Also, if you have black and thinner hair, it is very possible to count the hairs along the hairline because of such a high contrast in color. I don't disagree with you, if he feels like his hairline is changing, then he should definitely see a dermatologist. But if he only just noticed that his hairline is like that and it has always been like that, and doesn't like it, then he might just have to learn to live with it. It's all up to him. I told him the same thing you said. His hairline may be strange, but at his age it is most likely not because of male pattern baldness. I don't know why you got so defensive over it.
