Scalp conditions and hair loss

I'm very curious to know if there is anyone that has a certain scalp condition such as SD, folliculitis, etc.. That have notice and/or suspect it is the cause of their thinning hair.

I, myself, have a pretty annoying/reoccurring case of folliculitis. It causes major inflammation on my scalp. I get painful bumps, cysts, and tender spots especially on the crown and now a few on the hairline. I've noticed, however, that the spots where the breakouts occur is where my hair is the thinnest.

Must note I've been on finasteride for about 4months but I don't think it is the cause of the major inflammation. I was diagnosed with the condition before I went on finasteride. Any feedback from someone in a familiar situation would be great!

Nizoral 2% Shampoo is one. Just don't overdo it

I've used nizoral and it helps a little bit but not significantly for me. Is there any type of vitamins or foods you can eat that reduces inflammation throughout the body and scalp. I know cutting back on diary helps but what else works?

Cutting back on dairy definitely helped me. But, also cutting back on grains and sugar. This problem also comes back and persists if I gain weight. It's annoying as hell. Have a lot of fresh vegetables with your meats. It's good for your digestion and skin which can only help in fighting the folliculitis. If you want to add a supplement, I recommend zinc.

Thanks for the advice jksl. I was actually looking into taking zinc supplements. I have noticed to when my weight fluctuates or I drink a lot the inflammation gets worse.

I'm willing to try anything at this point this folliculitis is a ***** to deal with.

What are some things you can do to reduce inflammation in the scalp?

With common hairloss we muust have always a compass and imegine why the factor X (inflmammation p.e.) only ocurrs in a special pattern???? Then, why use internal meds??

If you have folliculitis, surely it would be best to see a dermatologist? I'm sure you can get some prescription meds/steroid topicals or whatever to help with that.

I have really, really bad inflammation in my male pattern baldness areas ever since trying Propecia. Wherever the itch is worst, visible thinning/miniaturisation soon follows. There's no physical signs of inflammation; no redness, flaking, sebum etc. I'm not entirely sure why but I think it's due to upregulated androgen receptors and being more sensitive to DHT. Chronic micro-inflammation is at the root of male pattern baldness and is often caused when DHT attaches to the receptor in the hair follicle and sets off a chain reaction of inflammation that gradually weakens and destroys the hair follicle. For most people this is so tiny that it doesn't manifest itself physically, for others like myself it's so aggressive that it becomes an itching, tingling, burning feeling.

There's loads of anti-inflammatory supplements/vitamins you can take, but they're going to be quite weak. Many people with scalp itching/inflammation say diet can help a lot...cutting out gluten/sugar and lowering on carbs etc.
I myself find my scalp inflammation is worse if I'm hungover, so I know alcohol makes it worse.

I would recommend a keto shampoo like Regenepure DR (Nizoral is too harsh for many), supplements such as fish oil, turmeric/curcumin and nettle extract and fo-ti helped me slightly as well.

Thanks for the advice dench. I actually did see a derm. She prescribed me both a steroid and a topical antibiotic but neither did much to in the long run.

I actually read your thread on here and thought maybe the inflammation was because I was taking finasteride but the strange thing is that my folliculitis developed right after stopping minoxidil. I think my scalp reacted bad to it and hasn't recovered.
