Does it help slow hair loss? Any decent studies for those who want a more subtle alternative to finasteride?

Saw Palmetto won't really do anything, it's too weak to slow hair loss at a significant level. Finasteride will be the #1 option for slowing/stopping hair loss.

By weak, do you mean that it inhibits DHT but not as much as finasteride?

Part of my issue with finasteride is that i'm reluctant to commit to something for life which significantly lowers my DHT (which finasteride does, even if i only use 0.5mg) ... in a way if there was something which just lowered DHT just slightly then i might be more prepared to take it..along with nizoral.

finasteride reduces DHT at around 70% in the blood and is said to directly effect such DHT at the scalp level.

SP has been shown in studies to reduce DHT in the blood by 30% yet not proven to effect the scalp although it may. SP works better with a few other ingredients like Pumpkin Seed, etc.

finasteride in the generic form is much cheaper IMO. I get 30 5mg pills that I cut into quarters the best I can. I get mine from Target bypassing my insurance because they are too expensive. So I pay directly $9 for 30 pills which comes to a 4 month supply. Or $27 for a year of finasteride. Can't say that I have regrown anything after 18 months especially in the front (receeding) but I'm just trying to hold on to what I have until a miracle is found.

Hmmm. The study which i read suggested SP reduced DHT by 32% in the prostate bur not in the blood at all. Wondering if that is the same study?

Anothwr reason i am reluctant about finasteride is i've heard people say their hairline got worse on it...i donr know if the change in hormones does that. the hairline to me is just as important as the crown...
