First off, what kind should I get and how strong? Isnt there a grape seed extract saw palmetto or something

Second: Has anyone used saw palmetto and nizoral and gotten good results?

third: will it have similar side effects as propecia?

Thanks

Ok. Saw palmetto will do nothing on it's own. If anything it might just sap your libido. But... If you want to try it, get the saw palmetto extract (gelcaps) standardized to 85%-95% fatty acids. You can get any strength gelcap, just make sure you take at least 320mg a day. The stuff is dirt cheap too... lke 8 bucks for 250 gelcaps.

To your second question... you'd be doing yourself an injustice by taking that route. Nizoral won't do anything for you besides make your scalp all feeling good... and saw palmetto won't do anything either.

Saw palmetto only seems to do anything in CONJUNCTION with finasteride. It's a weak DHT inhibitor, and does practically nothing but mop up what finasteride leaves off. You should take propecia before trying unproven treatments. If your loss is bad, get on Minoxidil too.

do try saw palmetto. It works for me, not for everyone else seemingly. I'd be really afraid to live without it now. I take 520mg twice a day (unstandardized as i haven't found standardized in my city yet). And Solgar, the company that makes it recommends from 1 to 3 pills a day.

But first weeks on SP can make you feel a little bit weird. Horny, ballsy (i mean bigger balls litterally), maybe slightly depressed for a while. I also found my nipples a little bit painful for about 3 or 4 days just like when i was 15. Very strange. No hormonal change can happen unnoticed in one way or the other. The only side effects that remain are the bigger balls and a stronger urge for sex (my girlfriend buys my herbs now..).

BTW, it does help my hair growth dramatically, but again that's my experience with it.

Also i think the reason it hasn't worked for a lot people is that maybe the amount taken was not very high. I seem to take more SP than anyone here, so... In the last 2 months i've tried to take 520mg pills three times a day instead of two (i find it hard to be consistent) and there seems to be a further improvement in my hair growth but it's just too early to say. Anyway if like me you try all you can to avoid synthetic drugs, are afraid of Propecia. side effects, and feel better about taking something which is meant to be safe so far, give theses herbs a chance.

You're probably just thinking it's working..because the berry powder is essentially worthless. I heard somewhere that the body has a harder time metabolizing the non-processed berries than the standardized extract.... But whatever.. I don't know anything.

Khai -

You are also using Minoxidil, correct?

Even Propecia isn't known for stimulating hair growth. It eliminates the cause of loss and over a year to two years additional density can be seen because of the lack of DHT affliction. It does not, however, "stimulate" growth, nor would you see "dramatic growth stimulation" as you describe it, in a short period of time.

You should clearly state in all your pro saw palmetto posts that you are using a proven Growth Stimulant called Minoxidil, that has been proven to provide dramatic growth stimulation in some people, and saw palmetto does not in fact do that, nor has it been shown to do it in anyone yet.

I can totally vouch for Minoxidil. The sh*t is awsome! Ihave only been on it (and Propecia) for a little over 3 months and my hair density has gotten WAAYY better than what it was. Im not talking little vellous hairs bullshit either, what I have is defiintie hair improvement and Ill be very happy if things keep going at this rate for a bit..

This is an age old argument that will never have a clear ending. I beive SW in a no good product for male pattern baldness. I have used it for well over a year with little results.

I used saw palmetto standardised 85-95% free FA's 320mg twice a day for over a year, and there was no further noticable loss but no improvement either, I stopped it as i noticed that it started to make the veins in my lower legs stick out bizzare, about a few months after stopping the veins in my lower legs have disapeered, so i would never go back on it, ive enough problems without having varicose veins as well

Saw palmetto has helped slow down my hair loss (This was a month before using revivogen) so I do believe it does help, it IS the number one alternative for BPH in Germany and it does have some backing for reducing DHT (From german studies from what I have HEARD)

I have however recently been hearing stuff about Saw Palmetto and Beta-Sterols being an excellent combination in stopping hair loss(Not sure bout regrowth though)

Saw palmetto contains 1% of beta sterols and I hear that and the fatty acids are what slow down your hair loss.

I know a lot of people dont believe in Saw palmetto and they prefer to go straight to the FDA backed route but its your choice at the end of the day, remember some things that work for others might not work for you but it could be the other way round...

I would have went with propecia but im 18 so thats why im going the alternative route, hope thats of some help and remember the decision is yours!
