so in short theory i went on vacation in a 3rd world country, didnt wash my hair often, back in the usa and my hair is thinning and falling off slowly.

Im 20 btw , and i saw a Trichologist and she said that its proubably due to the fact that i have a parasite and i should cleanse my body and it would go away.

i think she had no effin clue what she was saying, she tried selling me her cleaning products afterwards, in short summary waste of 55 dollars.

Now im going to see a general dr and try to get a prescription for propecia.

If i start taking this, and my hair goes back to normal like it was a month ago, can i stop taking it?

Ive decided ima start up Finasteride 1mg , I thought about cutting the 5mg but im not good at cutting medicines and too much hassle. Im getting a 200 pills for 90 bucks, other then a lower sex drive it cant do any worst to my hair really so ima go on the safe side and start it up before i lose more hair.

thanks everyone

Do you actually have typical Male Pattern Baldness? It sounds like you're not even sure. Finasteride is only going to work if your loss is hormone (DHT) related and no you can't stop taking it. It's a lifelong committment.

beaner has a point

were you confirmed with actual male pattern baldness

you may have experienced Telogen Effluvium or you may have a thyroid issues

you will have to take finasteride for life to continue any improvements

^ I'd back that. Make sure it's male pattern baldness first. A dead giveaway will be recession at the temples or the frontal area of your hairline. If it's diffuse it doesn't mean it's not male pattern baldness, but it means it could be telogen effluvium or alopecia areata as well. No point in jumping on finasteride if it's one of those two.

I've never heard of a parasite causing hair loss in this way, however, and I doubt not washing your hair often would have had an effect like this in itself.

someone else said I might have telogen efflvium , im so lost and have no idea what to do. im going to see a dr's soon and get advice and ask if im on these cycles or if its male pattern baldness

i was thinking it might be telogen as i did have a huge shock as i traveled overseas for hte first time and etc.

thanks

It's not impossible, but telogen effluvium is rare compared to male pattern baldness. The maths stack in favour of the latter.

The other giveaway, like I say, is the pattern of the hairloss. It's called male pattern baldness for a reason. If you're losing in the temples and the crown, but not in the sides or the back, that's a strong indication that it's male pattern baldness.

That's a different story then. Still, be careful with the diagnosis, and don't immediately jump to any conclusions.
