Yesterday I finally was able to meet with a hair loss specialist , which I thought would prove to be more effective then a dermatologist

I was expecting him to prescribe me for finasteride , I have read up on the effects and I want to start on it

However after looking at my head he said that is not a good idea yet , but he did tell me to keep using rogaine. He said that the rogaine will maintain my hair.

From what I have read online , rogaine will not maintain my hair alone and it is best to start on finasteride early

I have a very strong family history of early baldness , and I have some diffuse thinning on the crown . I would think I would be at an ideal time to take finasteride , but the doctors seem to think otherwise. I have seen two doctors about this and both said I should wait till I'm 20 because rogaine will maintain my hair

doesnt sound reliable to me. Seems like hes more interested in making some extra cash down the line

Or he's looking out for your wellbeing since you can still be developing if you're under 20, like op said. Not everyone is out to make an easy buck...

Finasteride problems start when you are in age where you will get married...

Indian docs hesistate to rx Finasteride after 25/28...before that they easily give it to those who are 20 above..

That makes absolutely no sense.. you're already fully developed after 25. If you get no sides your sex life is unaffected so marriage has nothing to do with that

I started it 4 years before getting married. Then had a baby. No problems there.

I've heard lots of people throw around " it may mess up your development" yet there seems to be no clear answer on what it can / will do.

If my hair loss gets worse I think I will try finasteride. For now I'll try min but I am confused that my doctor said min will stop my hair loss because I don't beleive min alone can stop hair loss

But I'll see I guess

How can I do that when the doctors won't even prescribe me?

I asked about taking finasteride several times to my doctors

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC34445/ Here's proof that finasteride can cause premature closure of growth plates. Estrogen is increased 15%. Estrogen is the key hormone that signals the closing of the plates. Furthermore, dht is critical in the developement of a beard. So I'd imagine that it would prevent facial hair from going terminal. I'm not quite sure if this permanently stunts facial hair growth or if it just prevents it until you cease the use of finasteride. Personally, I think head hair is more important than it's facial counterpart. But the stunted vertical growth would be a b*tch. And keeping all this in mind, finasteride may speed up your hair loss if you experience RH. But who knows, it may let you keep your current hair until you're 30 or older.
